Ivy is as much a song about memory as it is about love. Frank dreams of a version of the past that does not exist anymore, and might never have, yet aches for it anyway. This song mirrors the mind, dipping into the past and the present in a continuous dance. Although not without tension from the starker present, the song preserves Frank's version of the past, making the song a memory in and of itself.
