Today’s episode is a sneak peak into something we’ve been building behind the scenes that’s going to seriously elevate your dancing — Fusion University’s Dance Rubric — and why our Practicas (dance practice jam) are becoming a favorite space for learning, experimenting, and actually feeling the growth in your dance.
Here’s the thing:
You can’t improve what you can’t measure. If we’re going to define what “good” is in partner dancing, we need a way to measure it — without slipping into perfectionism or crushing creativity.
We talk about our six Guiding Principles and what they mean in this episode.
No matter what your dance background is — WCS, blues, tango, ballroom, salsa — this rubric helps you see both your strengths and where you can grow. It’s not about “you’re good” or “you’re bad.” It’s about giving you the tools to create better experiences for your partners and for yourself.
______
We also get into:
How dancing is co-creation, not just self-expression — and how to adjust to your partner without losing yourself.
Why “mixed reviews” of a dance often come down to one or two areas in the rubric — and how identifying them can change everything.
How Practicas are different from regular socials (think: guided, intentional, and full of “aha!” moments you can’t get from YouTube).
Real-time feedback that’s like adding just the right spice to a dish — you don’t have to take every suggestion, but the ideas open new layers and textures in your dance.
💡 Practicas (aka dance practice jams) at FU are designed to:
Help you spot blind spots
Give hands-on feedback so you can feel what better connection is like
Workshop new ideas and moves with guidance
Build a culture where giving and receiving feedback is safe, constructive, and even fun
In the wild world of social dancing, you often don’t get that level of intentional feedback. Practicas are the bridge between “learning in class” and “dancing in the wild.”
