In Disney and Pixar’s latest feature film “Turning Red,” 13-year-old Mei-Lin Lee “poofs” into a giant panda when she gets too excited (which for a teenager is practically ALWAYS).
It’s the first Disney/Pixar film to be directed by a woman (a Chinese-Canadian to be precise), as well as the first to be helmed by an all-women leadership team.
So I was thrilled to get the chance to interview Director Domee Shi (who directed Pixar’s 2018 Oscar-winning short “Bao”) and Producer Lindsey Collins (who co-produced their Oscar-winning Wall-E) as part of The MSG Pod “Turning Red” review special.

For one night only, on Sunday 5 September 2021, MiMi’s co-host was the wonderful Viv Yau from besea.n – Britain’s East and South East Asian Network and their very special guest was professional plant geek, broadcaster and best-selling author James Wong. With topics ranging from Marvel superpowers, desert island essentials, Final Destination movies, and who would win in a fight between a Triffid and an Ent, who knew plants could be so varied, so controversial, and so very, very funny?!
This live event was held in honour of ESEA Heritage Month and was held in front of a live studio audience as part of the London Podcast Festival.
