Steve Heaney joined the British Army in 1986 aged just 16. In 1987 he was posted to 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment. During his time in 3 PARA he saw active service in Northern Ireland being awarded a GOCs commendation, for working as part of a specialised joint military and police search team, tasked with locating hidden terrorist weapons and explosives. In January 1990 he undertook selection for ‘X Platoon’ more formally known as the Pathfinders, an elite, covert reconnaissance unit that until 1999 officially did not exist nor was it formally recognised by the MOD. Aged only twenty he became the youngest soldier ever to pass the rigorous selection process, which mirrors that undertaken by SAS volunteers, it also involves completing Resistance to Interrogation training.Steve Heaney MC was regarded as one of the most accomplished parachutists in the military, working as a trials parachutist he helped to advance most of the techniques that are employed by Special Forces today, such as High Altitude Low Opening (HALO),https://www.amazon.co.uk/X-Platoon-Steve-Heaney-MC/dp/1409148505/ref=asc_df_1409148505?mcid=b6b0ad4f88113fc99f443eadaa7a7ad7&th=1&psc=1&hvocijid=14332764871478244884-1409148505-&hvexpln=74&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696285193871&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14332764871478244884&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046393&hvtargid=pla-2281435177138&psc=1&gad_source=1#parachuteregiment #pathfinder #interview #viralvideo #shorts #specialforces #britisharmy #war #sierraleone #junglewarfare #instagram #facts
