TPTA8: A Melody Should Not Be an Afterthought (short)
If the storyline behind a song pulls at your heart enough, does the song itself even have to be good for people to still rave about it? If one finds a singer to be charming, have the listeners already been too smitten to give an objective evaluation of the song? At what point does a particular theme or message or sob story become too cliche and too predictable? At what point do people start treating these as adequate substitutes for a strong melody and for clever lyrics?
