PT’s PT Episode 4 - Dr. Ryan Donahue
On this episode the PT’s PT Dr. Lordan interviews the San Francisco 49ers director of reconditioning, Ryan Donahue. Ryan explains how he “reverse engineered” success in his career and outlines 5 things that he knew his resume would need in order to work at the highest level of sports. This is a must listen for New Grads interested in a Sports track of PT, or for any PT who is looking to learn from someone at the Pinnacle of Sports Medicine. Enjoy!   Ryan's Bio: Ryan Donahue is in his ninth year with the San Francisco 49ers as the team's Director of Reconditioning. An accomplished leader, physical therapist, performance coach, keynote speaker, and reconditioning specialist, Ryan utilizes his background in both medicine and strength and conditioning to lead the reconditioning process, returning players from injury to full athletic competition.   Before joining the 49ers, Donahue spent the previous three years as a physical therapist at the Andrews Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, FL where he provided rehabilitation for athletes in the NFL, NBA, MLB, Olympic Teams as well as US Special Forces and general population.   Prior to the Andrews Institute, Donahue received his doctorate in physical therapy from Northeastern University in 2012, while also serving as Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning for the university's Sports Performance department. In addition to Northeastern, he has held previous affiliations with EXOS (formerly Athletes' Performance) in a physical therapy role, as well as strength & conditioning affiliations with the University of Connecticut, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning. In 2008, Donahue received a bachelor of science in exercise science from the University of Connecticut with a concentration in strength & conditioning.   A native of Andover, MA, Donahue and his wife, Bridgette (née Trometer; NEU DPT ‘12), have two sons, Carter and Charlie.
