Kai Mata is a singer-songwriter known for her bold fight for LGBTQ+ rights in Indonesia. Despite the risk of being arrested for being so out there, she continues to put herself forward as a role model for younger queer people to look up to. I so admire her courage, and in this interview we talk about what it's like in Indonesia for the LGBTQ+ community, her music, where and how she grew up, and what she would propose for Indonesia moving forward as a more inclusive nation.
