Supt. Lance Parker – is a 23-year member of the EPS with experience in both front-line and plain clothes operations. Lance currently oversees 2 of our 6 patrol branches and has nearly 2 decades in our Public Safety Unit, of which he currently serves as its Executive Officer.
Sgt. Bill Countryman – is a 22-year member of the EPS with both operational and investigative experience. He is currently in the Disaster Emergency Operations Preparedness Section (DEOPS). Bill’s role within DEOPS is to support the EPS with logistical planning and training in support of major events, protests & rallies, and disaster response.
This discussion examines the purpose and approach of the EPS Public Safety Unit, which manages crowds at large or high-risk events. We look at how to better inform the public about police intent and actions while addressing common misconceptions. We also reflect on our own experiences and the impact these events have on public safety, the service, and individual officers.
