Episode 17 - Jorge

In this episode of The Shuffle Curious Podcast, it was a pleasure speaking with Jorge Miranda as our guest. Jorge's love for electronic dance music began when he saw his cousins listening to it constantly. Intrigued and curious, he embarked on a quest to explore this music further. It was his brother who introduced him to shuffling, attempting to learn the moves. Initially dismissing it, Jorge's perception quickly changed, and he found himself engrossed in the art form. With a simple YouTube search, he stumbled upon videos that ignited his obsession with shuffling.

Jorge's newfound passion led him to share his moves with friends, ultimately forming a crew during his time in Middle School. As he delved deeper, he sought different styles and techniques, having influences from different shuffle styles, such as Cali and Mas. 

A significant moment in Jorge's shuffle journey came when he ended a toxic relationship. As Jorge rekindled his passion for shuffling, he formed connections with high-level shufflers, developing close friendships built on shared interests and experiences (Mile High Shufflers!)

For Jorge, shuffling served as a kind of therapy, pulling him out of mental funks and providing a means of personal development. It became a way for him to connect with mentors who guided him along the way. Numerous trips punctuated his shuffle career, including memorable adventures to California, where he met his shuffling idols and participated in his first tournament.

Recently, Jorge faced an injury that not only affected him physically but also had a profound impact on his mental well-being. This forced break became an opportunity for him to focus on healing his injury, his own health, and observing shuffling from a distance. During this time, he has contemplated his next chapter with shuffling.

Bio:

Jorge Miranda was born in Anaheim, California but now lives in Aurora, CO and has been shuffling now for 11 years and has been listening to electronic music for more than half of his life. Although he is currently not able to dance at the moment he is apart of the Mile High Shufflers and can't wait to be back on the dancefloor!
