24: Tech in Space - Roving the Moon and Mars (Part 1)

What is a "rover"? Why are we fascinated by vehicles moving over extraterrestrial surfaces? How are they designed for various operational environments? Which rovers have operated on the Moon? In the twenty-fourth episode of The Sound of Space podcast, we start our glance at humanity's strive to operate mobile devices on the surface of other celestial bodies. The talk begins with defining "rover" in the aerospace context, we will then discuss motivations for rover missions, challenges to test rovers on Earth, how they communicate during missions, and focusing on lunar rovers in history. The next episode will bring up Mars rovers to complete the picture. Continue the conversation over on our Instagram account @_thesoundofspace or LinkedIn at The Sound of Space (TSOS) and let us know your thoughts on this episode!
