Source Material #407 - Daytripper #7-10 (Vertigo, 2010)
In the final installment of their emotional journey through Daytripper, Jesse and Mark cover the last four issues (#7–10) of this Eisner-winning graphic novel from Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá. With each chapter confronting death at different life stages, the series draws to a close not with despair, but with clarity, acceptance, and poetic resonance. And this episode brings that full-circle experience home, as the hosts reflect on the profound themes of friendship, fatherhood, legacy, and letting go.

From Brás’ heartbreaking reunion with his long-lost friend Jorge — which ends in shocking violence — to a quiet family-centered issue seen through the eyes of his wife and son, each chapter hits with its own kind of emotional gravity. The guys unpack how Daytripper uses subtle storytelling, lived-in dialogue, and reflective pacing to capture not just the reality of death, but the richness of life. Whether it’s the melancholy of missed connections or the quiet power of a loved one's recorded words, the series continues to resonate on deeply personal levels.

The final issues are nothing short of poetic: a dreamlike farewell, a final walk to the sea, and a father’s decades-old letter that lands at just the right time. Jesse and Mark both wrestle with the emotional impact of the story’s closing moments, and whether comics are even supposed to make you feel this much. Spoiler: they are. From emotional breakdowns to sharp social observations, this discussion is raw, real, and deeply respectful of what Daytripper achieves.
