DSW or PhD in Social Work? Tips from Dr. Shannon Cousineau, hosted by Dr. Veronica Hardy

Dr. Shannon Cousineau has over 20 years of experience working as a social worker. She has worked in the areas of foster care, military, intimate partner violence, medical social work, and crisis intervention. Dr. Cousineau has been a direct care provider, as well as in supervisory and management roles including overseeing outpatient behavioral health clinics, school-based work, intensive in-home therapy, and psychiatric emergency services. Dr. Cousineau earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work from Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island; a Master of Social Work degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington DC and a Doctorate in Social Work from the joint program of St. Catherine's University and the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to joining the social work faculty at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Dr. Cousineau was teaching graduate students in the Master of Social Work program at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts. Her research interests include spirituality, chronic medical conditions- with a specific focus in autoimmune disorders, children with complex medical needs and mental health. In her spare time, Dr. Cousineau enjoys spending time with her husband, volunteering in the community, and reading.

Are you interested in obtaining a doctorate degree in social work? Not sure whether to pursue a DSW or PhD? Concerned about balancing “personal/work” life and “education” life? In this podcast, I am joined by Dr. Shannon Cousineau as she discusses these questions and more!
