
Our guest for the second episode of Ubuntu Narratives podcast is Lydia Abenaitwe. As a woman living with a physical disability, she uses the power of her lived experience to inspire and influence the betterment of people with disabilities in Uganda. With 12 years of experience building and leading successful human resource management and disability inclusion initiatives in Corporate and civil society spaces, Lydia shares with us insights informed by her personal and professional experience of tools and best practices that have worked to promote disability-inclusive employment and entrepreneurship for young people living with disabilities.
In her current role as Programme Officer-Inclusive Employment at Light for the World International, she supports job seekers with disabilities to become job ready, linking them to opportunities, supporting organizations and companies to make their workplaces disability-inclusive by providing technical guidance, tools, data and referral services related to disability inclusion. Since 2020, she has served as a Secretary of the Uganda Business and Disability Network (UBDN), an employer-led network in Uganda that works towards creating workplaces and company culture that is respectful and inclusive towards persons with disabilities, promoting their hiring, retention, and professional development.
