Welcome to Uprooted, a space for the ignored and disenfranchised to feel seen and reroot themselves. My name is Hanna Rutha and I created Uprooted because I don't always feel seen in the places I occupy. As an ethnic Tigrayan living in the US, the immigrant label was the one that shaped my life the most. I lived in two worlds all the time and it was completely jarring. Uprooted peels back the real layers of what it means to be removed from the home you were supposed to be born to and find a way to replant yourselves. We're here to support one another as we "find our way back home".

The Lasting Impact of Zu's Sisterhood - #Summer W/ Zu ft. Special Guest Blien

Joining on this episode is none other than the amazingly sweet Blien aka Billy! Blien joins us all the way from Kentucky and shares the beautiful story of how she formed a sisterhood with Zu over the years starting with Twitter. Billy shared in Zu's ambitious personality pursuing her degree in Computer Science while working, and advocating for Tigray. She has an absolutely beautiful and kind spirit in the way she cares for others, and constantly promotes positivity. So appreciative of her coming on to share her light with us, and honor Zu with us all.

In this special season of Uprooted, we are honoring our beautiful sister Zuher Ibrahim who passed away on April 24, 2022. Zu was such a light, and champion in this world that her impact has been felt globally amongst her family, friends, peers, and community. She taught us so much and gave us everything she had so in that spirit we are honoring her legacy by continuing our plans to produce her own show, Summer with Zu. Before her sudden passing, we had been planting the seed to produce a segment specifically for Zu to 'educate and empower' people, especially in human rights and politics which were her specialties, and even before that she'd recommend amazing people to the show. So in that spirit, I have invited those folks to join me in uplifting her legacy, and to share this healing space as we figure out life moving forward 💜
