We talk deep dives into any and all the subjects we research for the podcast. We tend to focus more on artists that dug deeper into the work and themselves in what they offered to the world. We tell stories of everyday people, visionaries, and outsiders. We also present histories of the past to help navigate the present. We present a unique form of interview, conversation, and storytelling in an organic manner and focus on art, culture, music, film, and more. Hosted by: 1) Rich Wexler, founder and curator of the @vintageannalsarchive Instagram Based in beautiful West Philadelphia.

Ep. 175: Stephen Bluhm

Ep. 175: Stephen Bluhm

Stephen Bluhm is a gifted songwriter and crooner, lauded by folks like Mike Watt and The Magnetic Fields. His orchestral pop transports me to another place, while his synth stylings recall the best of Talking Heads and Depeche Mode. On his latest album, Out of the Nowhere Into the Here, he explores new lyric and sonic territory, employing a dozen orchestral musicians along with his piano. The album has a companion instrumental version as well.

I've known Stephen for years, since I booked shows in West Philadelphia, and noticed right away he always got a big, loving response from the audience. We've been friends ever since, and for 2 years, he's helped me edit and record intros to our Vintage Annals Archive podcast, and we use his music in the intros and outro on each episode. Aside from being a wonderful musician I'm grateful to know, he's a true sweetheart of a person.

On this episode we play clips from some of the songs on his album and talk about his life, including his accidental kundalini awakening and its affect on him and his songwriting.

You can find his music at stephenbluhm.bandcamp.com and any streaming site.

CATSKILL, NY's Avalon Lounge Friday September 26th 8pm songwriter Stephen Bluhm's 40th birthday party: original chamber and synth pop AND Brian Wilson covers by Hudson Valley musicians.
