Episode 2. WASH and IWRM: challenges and opportunities

Water usage is limited, and the amount of water available is shared with multiple sectors. When you build a latrine upstream, this will affect the water source downstream. Since IWRM and WASH are interlinked, it's important to cooperate. Together with two experts in the field, Evelyne Busingye (RAIN, Aidenvironment) and Tamene Chaka (Amref Health Africa Ethiopia), we discussed the importance of both IWRM and WASH, how they (can) collaborate and the next steps to be taken.

This podcast was produced as part of World Water Week 2021:

  • Why collaboration matters: lessons from partnerships for WASH and IWRM
  • Water Resource Management for WASH: strengthening communities for climate resilience

The WASH SDG Consortium is formed by the WASH Alliance International (lead by Simavi), Plan International Netherlands and SNV. These organisations partner with a large number of other NGOs and public/private institutions in the countries where the programme is implemented, as well as from the Netherlands.

Partners Uganda: RAIN, IRC, AMREF, HEWASA,JESE, WASEU, AFSART, AKVO, NETWAS and UWASNET, coordinated by Simavi-Uganda Office.

The WASH SDG Programme is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Inclusive Green Growth (IGG) department.
