Sawubona is a South African greeting that translates to “We See You”. To be seen and heard is a beautiful gift we can give each other. Soul sisters, Nadine and Kelly, believe that everyone’s voice matters and no subject is taboo. Their purpose is to keep it real, do it messy, and finally speak their truth while inviting you to speak yours. You’ll love this podcast, if you’re into personal growth, parenthood, relationships, human design, feng shui, spirituality and all things “woo”, self-care, midlife transitions, and anything else you’d talk to your soul tribe about.

32. Thriving through Challenges with Mitch Bohn

If you or someone you love lives with a physical or mental disability, check out this episode. We interview Mitch Bohn, a 27-year-old college student and podcast host from Montana, who is an inspiring example of someone who doesn’t use his physical limitations as an excuse. Instead he focuses on his dreams and goals and brings a positive light to those who know him as he shares his story with others. In this episode, Mitch emphasizes the need to break down stigmas and how to support individuals with disabilities.

Kelly met Mitch while co-hosting a local radio show. We wanted to have him on the show to build awareness around those who are living with disabilities. Mitch shares his journey of living with spina bifida and his mission to raise awareness for the disabled community. He discusses the challenges he faced growing up, including lack of accessibility in schools, and the importance of family and community support.

Mitch also shares how his love for sports turned into creating a podcast during COVID. His podcast Wide Left Sports features interviews with local athletes and discussions on various sports topics.

If you want to hear a story of someone who’s overcome the odds and turned his challenges into his superpowers, this episode is for you.

Key Takeaways:

  • Mitch's journey with spina bifida has taught him the importance of not putting limits on oneself and finding inspiration in others who have overcome challenges.

  • Athletes, especially in college, often face burnout and struggle with self-image and identity outside of their sport.

  • Mitch recognized a community need and started a support group for people with disabilities to provide a sense of community and connection in his hometown.

About Mitch:

  • Mitch has spina bifida, a condition that affects the lower part of his spine and causes weak ankles, making it difficult for him to walk.

  • He is passionate about raising awareness for the disabled community, especially in Montana.

Quotes:
