Natalie Stewart joins the conversation to share her journey as a veteran nurse and her current role as the Wellness Director and lifestyle medicine coach at St. John's Health. She reflects on her extensive "womb to tomb" nursing career, which spanned from labor and delivery to hospice care, providing her a deep appreciation for the vulnerability of the human experience. The episode highlights her pivotal transition into coaching, a practice she describes as an "antidote" to a distracted world through the sacred gift of presence and deep listening. Stewart describes the unique Wellness Center she leads, which is positioned at the hospital’s "front door" and staffed entirely by Wellcoach graduates. She offers practical wisdom on navigating the healthcare industry, explaining how a "coach approach" can build authentic rapport with stakeholders while utilizing evidence-based research to support the benefits of coaching. Ultimately, Stewart illustrates how integrating the pillars of lifestyle medicine with professional coaching creates a culture of health and dignity that "pulsates" throughout a medical system.

Kim Acedo, a current student in Wellcoaches' 9-month intensive professional coach training program, specializes in working with women in midlife. Her journey into coaching began after a 14-year career as a fitness coach, primarily with the same demographic. While she initially focused on workouts and meal plans, an experience with a client revealed the importance of addressing the underlying reasons behind health behaviors. This realization led Kim to discover wellness coaching, recognizing that she already possessed coaching skills. She chose to study at Wellcoaches in 2013 and started her own coaching practice in 2014, continuing to focus on women in midlife, coaching them over the phone.
Kim feels a strong calling to work with women who have often prioritized caring for others over themselves. Her purpose extends to advancing gender equality by raising awareness of the harm of traditional gender roles and supporting women in leadership to avoid burnout. She attracts clients through referrals and by being present in women's spaces and events, emphasizing the importance of having a clear niche so potential clients feel directly addressed.
