Deli Boys Review: A Hilarious Dark Comedy
In this episode of the Wicked Indulgence podcast, my co-host Kevin and I dive into the new Hulu series "Deli Boys." We kick off the conversation by reminiscing about our favorite delis, with a special nod to Jimmy Dean's in Newhall, California, where I enjoyed the best turkey club sandwich and fries.
We then transition to discussing "Deli Boys," sparked by a captivating trailer featuring a shocking scene where a character, Auntie Lucky, shoots a man in the deli, leading to chaos and dark humor. Intrigued by the blend of comedy and crime, we decided to give the show a three-episode trial, adhering to our house rule of not judging a series until we've seen at least three episodes.
As we delve into the plot, we introduce the Dar family, who run a deli empire built by their father, Baba Dar, who immigrated to America with just three dollars. The series explores the dynamics between the two brothers, Mir and Raj, who have vastly different lifestyles and aspirations. Mir is the ambitious one, while Raj embodies a carefree, laid-back attitude.
The story takes a turn when Baba Dar's criminal activities come to light after his unexpected death, thrusting the brothers into a world of chaos and crime they never anticipated. We discuss the show's comedic elements, the strong character dynamics, and the clever editing that keeps viewers engaged.
Throughout our review, we share our thoughts on the show's production quality, humor, and character development, ultimately rating the first three episodes an 8 out of 10 for their engaging storytelling and comedic timing. We also touch on the show's unique blend of humor and crime, likening it to a mix of "Schitt's Creek" and "Breaking Bad."
As we wrap up, we provide a spoiler-filled discussion of key moments, including the brothers' attempts to navigate their new reality, the absurdity of their situations, and the hilarious antics that ensue. Join us as we revel in the delightful chaos of "Deli Boys" and explore the intricacies of this fresh and entertaining series!
