In this episode, Podcast Director Sophie Yang speaks with Ontario Senator Kim Pate! Senator Pate is an alumnus of Dalhousie University Law School, and was previously an executive director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies. She was named a member of the Order of Canada in 2014 for her work and advocacy on behalf of women who are marginalized, victimized, or incarcerated, and for her research on women in the criminal justice system. In 2016, she was nominated to the Senate of Canada by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau where she has sat as an independent senator for Ontario ever since. Listen in to hear Sophie speak with Senator Pate about the Canadian Senate, Guaranteed Liveable Income (GLI), the prison system, environmental issues affecting Indigenous communities, and her advice for youth wanting to be an advocate and public servant like herself.
