今回のエピソードロケは図書館。
本の虫のぼくにとっては大変うれしいこと。
ただ、奈義町の図書館はすごいとぼくは思っているが、まわりの人にどれくらい使われているのだろう。
大学のころ、ぼくは友だちとよく勉強をしに行っていたけれど、
近年、仕事のせいもしくはセクシーライブラリアンの減少のせいで使用が減った気がします。
とにかく今年ぼくにとって図書館はもっと大事なものになりました。
それはなぜかというと、もう他の行く所がなくなったからです。
今のしている仕事に合格したかを知るまで結構な時間がかかったので、
毎日本当に苦しかったです。
気が狂うのを防ぐために、何かしなければいけなかったということが明らかでした。
そうなると図書館に通い始め、月～金、５時～９時。
そのとき、求職活動もしていたけれど、ほとんどの時間は日本語の勉強に費やしました。
まー、確か、「よしもとバナナ」みたいな名前を持っている人が書いた本を読むと社会に貢献するかどうかはちょっと微妙ですけどね。
半分冗談はさておいて、図書館のおかげで、まだ世界につながっているような実感しました。
それは図書館の力。
図書館に行けば、いつでも成長はできます。
もしも、あるときに弱っていると感じたら、図書館によって教育で回復してもいいじゃないでしょうか。
もちろん、学んだことを活かして貢献しなければなりません。
でも、自分はできない人だと思い込んでしまうとき、機会を活用して自分の世界を広める時間となるでしょう。
Today’s episode of Fushinagi Radio was recorded in probably the coolest place in the world: a library.
Do people I know use libraries much? Honestly I have no idea. I remember lots of my friends went there to study during school and university but I kind of feel like that dropped off with the advent of jobs and a decline in sexy librarians (was that ever a thing?)
For me anyway, this past year libraries became a real staple in my life. From January I was in Australia waiting to find out if I had been successful following the interview for my current job.
It was a horrible, sweaty limbo that stretched on for a good couple of months, and I had to find something to take my mind off just how little I was contributing to society.
So I began going to the library, Monday to Friday 5-9. Job searching took up plenty of time, but mostly I was studying Japanese the whole way through.
Granted, reading books written by authors with names like Yoshimoto Banana might have questionable social value, but the library really helped me stay connected to the rest of the world. At a vulnerable point, I don’t think it’s so terrible to turn to the comfort of education (heebeen glavin).
Of course, eventually you have to use what you’ve learnt and give back. You know, do some actual work. But for those times you don’t feel like you’ve got something to offer, taking the opportunity to broaden your understanding of things is really important in the long term.
