The coronavirus pandemic has helped make treehouses popular in the US, both as fun backyard spaces and unusual vacation accommodation.
For many people, a basic treehouse is still the way to go. Jim Brook, a 71-year-old grandfather from Colorado, said building a simple treehouse was a fun way to get his three grandsons to play outside.
Nanci and Ethan Butler from Massachusetts built their own backyard treehouse too. However, theirs took three months, and is big enough for the Butlers and their two kids to sleep in.
For those who don't want to build their own, treehouse rentals now have their own section on Airbnb. Places like the Mohicans Treehouse Resort in Ohio offer customers a chance to experience the outdoors but with modern amenities. The resort's nine treehouses are more like hotel rooms, with bathrooms, electricity and even air conditioning.
Aaron Smith, who owns Treecraft Design-Build in Colorado, said business is booming. He said that there has been a big increase in people asking for backyard treehouses during the pandemic.
The company's treehouses can be anything from basic structures costing about $10,000, to ones you could live in that cost half a million dollars.
