今日はクリスマスですね。

私は朝9時の飛行機に乗って、地元に帰ります。
両親や兄の家族と27日にクリスマスパーティをする予定です。

Drunk driving in Japan
皆さんの国では、お酒を飲んでいても運転できますか？
日本では、何年か前に飲酒運転の罰則が厳しくなりました。
1滴でもお酒を飲んだら運転してはダメで、
運転した人、一緒に車に乗っていた人、お酒を提供した人の
全員が罰金を払わなければいけません。
皆さんの国では、どうですか？

Kumano-te cafe
HSPを意味する、「繊細さん」が楽しく働けるカフェが、大阪にあるそうです。
カフェでお客さんが注文した飲み物を、熊の手をつけて壁の穴から渡す、
という仕事だそうです。
お客さんは、熊さんのかわいい手に癒されて、
繊細さんは、ありがとう、かわいい、と言われることで、
自己肯定感を上げることができるそうです。
winwinでいいアイディアだなと思います。
HSPを いみする、「せんさいさん」が たのしく はたらける かふぇが、
おおさかに あるそうです。
かふぇで おきゃくさんが ちゅうもんした のみものを、
くまの てを つけて かべの あなから わたす、という しごとだそうです。
おきゃくさんは、くまさんの かわいいてに いやされて、
せんさいさんは、ありがとう、かわいい、といわれることで、

I heard that there's a cafe in Osaka
where HSPs (meaning highly sensitive people) can work happily.
The job is serving drinks ordered by customers through a hole
in the wall using a bear paw.
Customers are soothed by the cute bear paws,
and the HSPs working there boost their self-esteem
by being told “Thank you.” and “Cute.”
I think it's a good win-win idea.

Sake wa nondemo nomareruna
12月の忘年会シーズンに、よく聞く言葉があります。
「酒は飲んでも飲まれるな」という言葉です。
お酒を飲んでもいいけど、お酒に飲まれて失敗しないでね、
という意味です。
12月のこの時期は、お酒を飲んで騒いだり叫んだり、
羽目を外す人が増えるので、酒は飲んでも飲まれるな、
という言葉をよく聞きます。
皆さんの国にも、こういう言葉はありますか？
じゅうにがつの ぼうねんかい しーずんに、
よく きく ことばが あります。
「さけは のんでも のまれるな」という ことばです。
おさけを のんでもいいけど、おさけに のまれて しっぱいしないでね、
といういみです。
じゅうにがつの この じきは、おさけを のんで さわいだり さけんだり、
はめを はずす ひとが ふえるので、さけは のんでも のまれるな、
という ことばを よく ききます。
みなさんの くににも、こういう ことばは ありますか？

Osechi for dogs
こないだセブンイレブンで面白いものを見ました。
ワンちゃん用のおせちです。
この時期になると、お正月に食べるおせち料理の予約が始まるのですが、
ワンちゃん用のものは初めて見ました。
調べてみると、小型犬用、大型犬用、猫ちゃん用など、
色々なペット用のおせちがあるようです。
おせちを食べているワンちゃん猫ちゃんを想像すると、
可愛いですね。
こないだ せぶんいれぶんで おもしろいものを みました。
わんちゃんようの おせちです。
この じきに なると、おしょうがつに たべる おせちりょうりの
よやくが はじまるのですが、わんちゃんようの ものは
はじめてみました。
しらべてみると、こがたけん よう、おおがたけん よう、
ねこちゃん ようなど、いろいろな ぺっとようの おせちがあるようです。
おせちを たべている わんちゃん ねこちゃんを そうぞうすると、
かわいいですね。
The other day at 7-Eleven, I saw something interesting.
It was a New Year's feast for dogs.
Around this time of year, reservations start
for the New Year's feast dishes we eat during the New year holidays,
but this was the first time I'd seen one for dogs.
Looking into it, it seems there are various pet
New Year's feasts available, like ones for small dogs,
large dogs, and cats.
Just imagining dogs and cats eating their New Year's feast...
it's adorable, isn't it?

Bounenkai season has come!
12月、日本は忘年会シーズンです。
何年か前まで、会社の飲み会や忘年会は絶対参加、
という文化が一般的でした。
でも最近は自由参加の忘年会が流行っているそうです。
絶対来い、若手はどんどん飲めという文化は、もうパワハラになるので、
若い人に合わせてだんだん変わってきているようです。
自由参加なら、私は多分行かないかなと思うのですが😂
皆さんならどうしますか？
じゅうにがつ、にほんは ぼうねんかい しーずんです。
なんねんか まえ まで、かいしゃの のみかいや ぼうねんかいは
ぜったい さんか、という ぶんかが いっぱんてきでした。
でも さいきんは じゆう さんかの ぼうねんかいが はやっているそうです。
ぜったい こい、わかては どんどん のめ という ぶんかは、
もう ぱわはらに なるので、わかい ひとに あわせて
だんだん かわって きているようです。
じゆう さんかなら、わたしは たぶん いかないかな とおもうのですが
みなさんなら どうしますか？
December is the season for year-end parties in Japan.
Until a few years ago, it was common culture that
company drinking parties and year-end parties were mandatory events.
But lately, year-end parties where you can choose to go or not
seems to be popular.
The culture of “You defenitely must come” and
“Younger employees should drink as much as possible”
is now considered power harassment,
so it seems things are gradually changing to adjust to younger people.
If going to a year-end party is optional, I probably wouldn't go…

The answer to the Idaten quiz
先週の、韋駄天に関するクイズの答えです。
答えは「ごちそうさま」でした。
韋駄天のように、色々な場所に行って食べ物を集めてくる
馳走をしてくれて、ありがとうございます。
これが「ごちそうさま」という言葉の由来になっています。
豪華な食事のことを「ごちそう」と言いますが、
食べ物だけでなく、その食べ物を作るための努力も含めて
「ごちそう」と呼ぶそうです。
せんしゅうの、いだてんに かんする くいずの こたえです。
こたえは「ごちそうさま」でした。
「いだてんの ように、いろいろな ばしょに いって
たべものを あつめてくる ちそうを してくれて、ありがとうございます。」
これが「ごちそうさま」という ことばの ゆらいに なっています。
ごうかな しょくじのことを「ごちそう」といいますが、
たべもの だけでなく、その たべものを つくるための どりょくも ふくめて
「ごちそう」と よぶそうです。

This is the origin of the phrase “Gochisousama.”

Idaten
むかしむかし、あるところに韋駄天という神様がいました。
韋駄天はとても足が速く、お釈迦様や他の人のために
色々な場所に行って、食べ物を集めました。
それを馳走（ちそう）と言います。
この話は、皆さんもよく知っている、ある言葉の由来になっています。
ご飯のときに言う、あの言葉です。答えはまた来週！
むかし むかし、あるところに いだてん という かみさまが いました。
いだてんは とても あしが はやく、おしゃかさまや ほかの ひとの ために
いろいろな ばしょに いって、たべものを あつめました。
それを ちそう といいます。
この はなしは、みなさんも よく しっている
ある ことばの ゆらいに なっています。
ごはんのときに いう、あの ことばです。こたえは また らいしゅう。

I went to a dog cafe in Ikebukuro
週末に、犬カフェに行ってきました。
池袋のお店に行ったのですが、広い店内にワンちゃんが10匹くらいいて、
おやつをあげたり、なでたりすることができました。
ダイエット中のワンちゃんは赤いバンダナをつけていて、
おやつをあげれないのですが
「ちょっとだけでいいから、おやつもらえないかなぁ」
という目で見てきたのが、可愛かったです😂
しゅうまつに、いぬかふぇに いってきました。
いけぶくろの おみせに いったのですが、
ひろい てんないに わんちゃんが じゅっぴきくらい いて、
おやつを あげたり、なでたりすることが できました。
だいえっとちゅうの わんちゃんは あかい ばんだなを つけていて、
おやつを あげれないのですが
「ちょっとだけで いいから、おやつ もらえないかなぁ」
という めで みてきたのが、かわいかったです。

I could give them treats and pet them.
The dogs on a diet wear red bandanas,

Social eating phobia
会食恐怖症という言葉をこないだ初めて聞きました。
簡単に言うと、人とご飯を食べるのが怖いという症状のことです。
今は少なくなっていると思いますが、日本の学校では給食を食べ切るまで
ランチタイムを終われないということがよくありました。
そして、それが会食恐怖症の原因の1つになっているそうです。
皆さんの国では、学校のランチタイムのルールがありますか？
かいしょく きょうふしょう という ことばを
こないだ はじめて ききました。
かんたんに いうと、ひとと ごはんを たべるのが こわいという
しょうじょうのことです。
いまは すくなくなっていると おもいますが、にほんの がっこうでは
きゅうしょくを たべきるまで らんちたいむを おわれない
ということが よく ありました。
そして、それが かいしょく きょうふしょうの げんいんの
ひとつに なっているそうです。
みなさんの くにでは、がっこうの らんちたいむの るーるが ありますか？
I recently heard the word “social eating phobia” for the first time.
Simply put, it's a symptom where people feel anxious
about eating meals with others.
I think it's less common now, but in Japanese schools,
it was often the case that you couldn’t end lunchtime
until you finished your school lunch.
And apparently, that's one cause of social eating phobia.

What is your dream job?
皆さんは、子供の頃してみたかった仕事がありますか？
私はずっとキャビンアテンダントに憧れていました。
高校くらいのときに、なぜかその夢は諦めたのですが、
今も飛行機に乗ると、CAさんを憧れのまなざしで見てしまいます。
皆さんの将来の夢は何でしたか？
みなさんは、こどものころ してみたかった しごとが ありますか？
わたしは ずっと きゃびん あてんだんとに あこがれていました。
こうこうくらいの ときに、なぜか その ゆめは あきらめたのですが、
いまも ひこうきに のると、CAさんを あこがれの まなざしで みてしまいます。

“I’m lifting the washing machine and rotate it”?
洗濯機で洗濯をすることを、洗濯機を回す、といいます。
洗濯機を持ち上げて、回転させるのではないのですが、
なぜか洗濯機を回すといいます。
こういう面白い言葉は他にもあって、
例えば、テーブルを片付ける、やかんが沸く、などです。
こういう言葉をメトノミーというそうですが、
皆さんの言語にも面白いメトノミーはありますか？
せんたくきで せんたくを することを、
せんたくきを まわす、といいます。
せんたくきを もちあげて、かいてんさせる のではないのですが、
なぜか せんたくきを まわす といいます。
こういう おもしろい ことばは ほかにも あって、
たとえば、てーぶるを かたづける、やかんが わく、などです。
こういう ことばを めとのみー というそうですが、
みなさんの げんごにも おもしろい めとのみーはありますか？
“Spinning the washing machine” means
running the washing machine in Japanese.
It's not like you lift the washing machine and make it spin,
but for some reason we say “spinning the washing machine.”
There are other interesting words like this,
such as “tidying the table,”“the kettle is boiling.”

Only four people know Ichiran recipe
皆さんもご存知かもしれませんが、
一蘭という、とても有名なラーメン屋さんがあります。
一蘭のラーメンには赤いたれがかかっているのですが、
そのレシピを知っている人は4人だけだそうです。
なので、その4人は絶対に同じ飛行機や電車には
乗らないようにしているそうです。
いつも行列ですが、日本に来たときには、ぜひ一蘭のラーメンを
食べてみてください。
みなさんも ごぞんじかもしれませんが、
いちらん という、とても ゆうめいな らーめんやさんが あります。
いちらんの らーめんには あかい たれが かかっているのですが、
その れしぴを しっているひとは よにんだけ だそうです。
なので、その よにんは ぜったいに おなじ ひこうきや でんしゃには
のらないように しているそうです。
いつも ぎょうれつですが、にほんに きたときには、
ぜひ いちらんの らーめんを たべてみてください。

色々ありますが、私はこたつです。
エアコンは部屋の空気がもわっとする感じが苦手で、
灯油のストーブは好きなのですが、マンションでは使えないので、
冬はもっぱらこたつに頼っています。
「こたつむり」という言葉があるのですが、
冬はこたつむりになるのがとても幸せです。
みなさんの、さむい ふゆに かかせない ものは なんですか？
いろいろ ありますが、わたしは こたつです。
えあこんは へやの くうきが もわっとする かんじが にがてで、
とうゆの すとーぶは すきなのですが、まんしょんでは つかえないので、
ふゆは もっぱら こたつに たよっています。
「こたつむり」という ことばが あるのですが、
ふゆは こたつむりに なるのが とても しあわせです。
What are your cold winter essentials?
There are many things, but for me, it's the kotatsu.
I don’t really like how air conditioners make the room feel hot and humid
and while I like oil heaters, I can't use them in my apartment,
so I rely entirely on the kotatsu during winter.
There's a term called “kotatsumuri” (kotatsu snail),
and becoming a kotatsumuri in winter makes me incredibly happy.

How many hours a day do you spend on Instagram?
前からずっと、インスタを見るのが本当に大好きで、
暇さえあれば見ていたのですが、
最近インスタを見る時間を少し減らしています。
（このアカウントじゃなくて、プライベートのアカウントの方です。）
というのも、インスタを見始めると、いつもいつの間にか
何十分も見てしまうからです。
インスタの時間を減らすと、急に時間が増えたような感じがしています。
皆さんは空き時間にどんなことをしていますか？
まえから ずっと、いんすたを みるのが ほんとうに だいすきで、
ひまさえあれば みていたのですが、
さいきん いんすたを みる じかんを すこし へらしています。
（この あかうんと じゃなくて、ぷらいべーとの あかうんとの ほうです。）
というのも、いんすたを みはじめると、いつも いつのまにか
なんじゅっぷんも みてしまうからです。
いんすたの じかんを へらすと、きゅうに じかんが
ふえたような かんじが しています。
みなさんは あきじかんに どんなことを していますか？
I've always really loved scrolling through Instagram,
and whenever I had free time, I'd be on it.
But lately, I've been cutting back on my Instagram time.
(Not this account, but my private one.)
That’s because, once I start looking at Instagram,
I always end up spending minutes before I realize it.
Cutting back on Instagram time suddenly makes me feel like
I have so much more free time.

Ginko lined street in Gaien-mae
週末に、イチョウの並木道が有名な、東京の外苑前というところに行きました。
実は前に働いていた会社がこの近くだったのですが、
なぜか一度も行ったことがなかったので行ってみました。
行ってみると、なんで今まで来なかったんだろうと思うほど本当にきれいで、
毎年来たいなと思える場所になりました。
週末で混んでいましたが、長い並木道なので全く苦ではありませんでした。
秋におすすめのスポットです。
しゅうまつに、いちょうの なみきみちが ゆうめいな、
とうきょうの がいえんまえ という ところに いきました。
じつは まえに はたらいていた かいしゃが この ちかくだったのですが、
なぜか いちども いったことが なかったので いってみました。
いってみると、なんで いままで こなかったんだろう とおもうほど
ほんとうに きれいで、まいとし きたいなと おもえる ばしょに なりました。
しゅうまつで こんでいましたが、ながい なみきみちなので
まったく くでは ありませんでした。
あきに おすすめの すぽっとです。
Last weekend, I visited Gaienmae in Tokyo,
famous for its ginkgo tree-lined street.
My previous company was actually nearby.
But for some reason I'd never been there before, so I decided to go.
Once I arrived, it was so beautiful that
I couldn't believe I hadn't come sooner.
And it became a place I want to visit every year.
It was crowded since it was the weekend, but the street is so long
that it wasn't bothersome at all.
It's a spot I highly recommend for autumn.

Saitama children’s zoo
週末にまた動物園に行ってきました。
今回は、日本で唯一クオッカに会える、埼玉の動物園に行きました。
残念ながらクオッカ達はずっとあっちを向いていて
なかなか顔を見ることができなかったのですが😂、
他にもコアラ、カピバラ、カワウソなど、可愛い動物をたくさん見れて大満足でした。
本格的に寒くならないうちに、色々なところに出かけてみようと思っています。
しゅうまつに また どうぶつえんに いってきました。
こんかいは、にほんで ゆいいつ くおっかに あえる、
さいたまの どうぶつえんに いきました。
ざんねんながら くおっかたちは ずっと あっちを むいていて
なかなか かおを みることが できなかったのですが、
ほかにも こあら、かぴばら、かわうそなど、
かわいい どうぶつを たくさん みれて だいまんぞくでした。
ほんかくてきに さむくならないうちに、いろいろな ところに
でかけてみようと おもっています。
I went to the zoo again over the weekend.
This time, I visited the zoo in Saitama, the only place in Japan
where you can see quokkas.
Unfortunately, the quokkas kept facing the other way the whole time,
so I couldn't really see their faces,
but I saw lots of other cute animals like koalas, capybaras,
and otters, so I was very satisfied.
I'm thinking of going out to various places before it gets really cold.

Beautiful Sumida aquarium
こないだ、スカイツリーのすぐそばにある、すみだ水族館に行ってきました。
全部が屋内の水族館だったので、小さいんだろうなと思っていたのですが、
とても良くて、大好きな水族館になりました。
魚はもちろんですが、水槽の植物や水がとてもきれいで、
美術館のようなおしゃれな展示でした。
そしてなぜか魚の匂いが全くしなくて、むしろいい匂いがしていたのも
印象的でした。
スカイツリーに行ったときに、ぜひ寄ってみてください!!
こないだ、すかいつりーの すぐ そばにある、
すみだ すいぞくかんに いってきました。
ぜんぶが おくないの すいぞくかんだったので、
ちいさいんだろうなと おもっていたのですが、
とても よくて、だいすきな すいぞくかんに なりました。
さかなは もちろんですが、すいそうの しょくぶつや みずが とても きれいで、
びじゅつかんのような おしゃれな てんじでした。
そして なぜか さかなの においが まったく しなくて、
むしろ いい においが していたのも いんしょうてきでした。
すかいつりーに いったときに、ぜひ よってみてください!!
The other day, I visited the Sumida Aquarium,
located right next to Tokyo Skytree.
Since it's an entirely indoor aquarium, I assumed it would be small,
but it was fantastic and has become one of my favorite aquariums.
The fish were wonderful, of course, but the plants in the tanks
and the water itself were incredibly beautiful,
making for a stylish, museum-like display.
And for some reason, there was absolutely no fishy smell.
In fact, it had a pleasant fragrance, which was also quite memorable.
If you go to Tokyo Skytree, you should definitely stop by!!
