Best Fall Travel Outfits and Packing Tips for Local Trips, Halloween and Oktoberfest
Fall is one of the best times of year to travel.
But packing for fall trips can be tricky. The fall weather shifts from warm afternoons to chilly nights (and sometimes even early frosts) add an extra layer of thought to consider when you pack for fall.
At 1923 Main Street, we live and breathe travel style. Our graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies are designed for travelers who want to pack light while staying stylish and comfortable. Here’s your ultimate guide on what to wear and pack for fall travel adventures.
What to Wear for Fall Travel
The secret to fall travel outfits is layering.
Layers keep you comfortable in changing weather and make it easy to adapt to different settings—from apple orchards to cobblestone streets.
Best Shoes and Accessories for Fall Travel
Fall Packing Tips for Local Getaways
If you’re planning a local day trip or weekend getaway in the fall—to a pumpkin patch, winery or mountain town—you don’t need to overpack (you never need to overpack).
Dressing for Pumpkin Patches and Halloween Adventures
Some of the best fall memories are made closer to home—picking the perfect pumpkin, getting lost in a corn maze, or heading out for a spooky Halloween event.
For these outings, comfort and fun go hand in hand. A cozy hoodie or sweatshirt layered over a travel-inspired graphic tee keeps you warm for hayrides or evening trick-or-treat strolls. Pair your tops with jeans or leggings and comfortable boots, and don’t forget a scarf or beanie for when the temperature dips after sunset, if those are your type of thing.
These outfits not only keep you comfortable but also look great in all those pumpkin patch photo ops.
What to Pack for Oktoberfest in Germany (or any International Fall Trip)
Heading abroad this fall? Whether it’s Oktoberfest in Munich or exploring European cities, smart packing is key.
How to Pack Light for Fall Travel
The beauty of fall travel wardrobes is that you don’t need much. By sticking to neutral colors and versatile layers, you can mix and match outfits without overpacking.
A sample carry-on fall packing list:
With this core packing list, you’re ready for anything—whether it’s cider tasting, exploring European cities, or cozy nights by a fire.

We did a little research to come up with what we believe are 10 of the worst things that you can do when you travel. We’ve seen it all. Nothing ruins a vacation faster than being that tourist: the one who ignores local customs, disrespects sacred spaces, or treats a destination like their personal playground.
10 Worst Things You Can Do on Vacation (and How to Avoid Them)
At 1923 Main Street®, we believe the best journeys happen when you wander off the map, get lost in new places, and explore with curiosity. But there’s a right way to get lost — and a wrong way.
So, before you zip up your bag and head out into the world, here are the 10 worst things you can do when you’re on vacation — and how to avoid them. Travel in style, travel with respect and get lost the right way.
How many of these things have you witnessed or experience on your travels, and how did you react to them?
10 Things to Avoid Doing When You Travel
1. Ignoring Local Customs
Every culture has its quirks, traditions and unspoken rules. From removing your shoes before entering a temple in Japan, to using the right hand for eating in India, ignoring local norms isn’t just awkward — it’s disrespectful.
Do this instead: Learn a few key dos and don’ts before you travel. Locals will appreciate the effort, even if you don’t get it perfect.
2. Overpacking (and then Complaining About It)
Dragging a giant suitcase over cobblestones while sweating through three layers? That’s not a vibe.
Do this instead: Pack smart and light. Tip - a good travel hoodie or versatile tee goes a long way.
3. Treating a Destination Like a Theme Park
People don’t exist for your entertainment. Snapping photos of locals without asking, or expecting “authentic performances” on demand are surefire ways to sour your experience.
Do this instead: Engage your destination with curiosity, not consumption. Ask before taking photos of locals and participate respectfully.
4. Being Loud and Obnoxious
That all-night party spirit may fly at home, but in a quiet village or a small guesthouse, you’re just the neighborhood fool (or worse).
Do this instead: Keep it fun, but always keep it considerate. Follow the lead of those in the know.
5. Only Eating What You Know
Flying across the world just to hunt down your favorite burger chain, or asking a local restaurant if they can make your favorite dish from home... nope.
Do this instead: Taste the local specialties. Food is culture and your taste buds will thank you. Worst case scenario, you have another great travel story to tell.
6. Forgetting Basic Phrases
“Hello,” “Please” and “Thank you” go further than you think. Showing up without knowing a single word of the local language says, “I really don’t care.”
Do this instead: Learn a handful of common words. Even if your accent is terrible, people will truly appreciate the effort.
7. Disrespecting Sacred Places
Scratching your name onto ancient ruins, shouting in cathedrals, or dressing inappropriately at temples — huge nos. There have been too many of these stories in the news recently, so please do not be that tourist.
Do this instead: Follow dress codes, keep your voice down and always remember that these types of spaces often hold deep meaning for locals.
8. Overplanning Every Minute
Vacations shouldn’t feel like military operations. Running from landmark to landmark without breathing means you’ll miss the magic in between.
Do this instead: Leave time to wander, roam freely and even get a little lost. Getting lost often leads to your best stories (trust us, we’ve been there).
9. Leaving a Trail of Trash
Plastic bottles on the beach, food wrappers on the trail — nothing kills paradise faster.
Do this instead: Carry reusable gear and leave no trace. Treat every place as if you’ll be back tomorrow.
10. Forgetting You’re a Guest
At the heart of it all, the worst travel mistake is forgetting that you’re a guest in someone else’s home town. Entitlement never looks good, no matter where you are.
Do this instead: Travel with humility. Respect opens doors (and hearts).
Travel in Style
The world is wide and wonderful and waiting to be explored.
Every destination (near and far) deserves respect. Avoid these travel missteps and you’ll come home not only with amazing memories, but with the pride of knowing you traveled well.
And if you want to wear your love of travel on your sleeve (literally), you know where to find us: 1923 Main Street® — for those who explore with respect.

If you’re wondering whether or not to wear a costume to a Halloween party at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, here’s what you need to know.
Does Everyone Dress up at Disney Parks Halloween Parties?
Disney Halloween parties are very fun events and, of course, Halloween is a time when many people love to dress up. But if you’re heading to your first Disney Halloween party and you’re wondering if you should bring a costume on vacation with you, this is what you need to know.
Whether you are attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World, or the Oogie Boogie Bash Disney at California Adventure at Disneyland, dressing up is a fun way to add to the Halloween spirit.
A quick note to keep in mind is that Disney does have rules around what types of costumes are acceptable (and more specifically what is not acceptable), so be sure to check the Disney costume guidelines on their website before you go.
Will I Feel Out-of-Place if I Dress Up (or Don’t Dress Up) for a Disney Halloween Party?
A common question for first-time guests at a Disney Parks Halloween party is “Will I feel out of place if I don’t dress up?” Or sometimes, “Will if feel out of place if I do dress up?”
In both cases, the answer is no.
Disney encourages party guests to dress up because it adds to the festive atmosphere of the parties, but not everyone does. We have been to Disney Halloween events at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World and in our experience, it feels like a 50-50 split (give or take) between costumes and non-costumes on most party nights.
People attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World may be more inclined to wear a costume compared to the Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland, but either way, whether you go in costume or not is completely up to you.
Instead of a Halloween Costume, You Can Go with a Spooky Theme
Cast members and other guests love seeing the costumes that guests wear. Some people really go over the top and it is great to see. But, remember to balance the practicality of the costume if you plan to go on rides or do anything other than posing with characters and trick-or-treating.
If you don’t want to go fully into costume mode, there are other options. An easier way to get into the Halloween spirit of the Disney party vibe is to wear a graphic t-shirt or similar apparel that has a Halloween theme generally (or even a Disney Halloween theme, like Hocus Pocus or even a Haunted Mansion shirt).
This is easier to wear, can be more comfortable and won’t take up too much extra space in your luggage. Also, if you’re attending one of the Disney Halloween parties in August or early September, it can be hot and humid (and even stormy) at night, so that is something to consider no matter what you plan to wear.

When you’re packing for a trip – whether it’s an island getaway, a European vacation or a Disney vacation – every item should have to earn its place in your bag. And that leads to a very common travel question: Should I pack a hoodie for this vacation?
Answering the Question: Should I Always Pack a Hoodie When I Travel?
At 1923 Main Street®, we create travel-inspired graphic hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts for travelers who want comfort and style on the go. We also know the hoodie can be one of the most versatile pieces you bring—or one that takes up space without ever leaving the suitcase.
How to Decide Whether to Bring a Hoodie on Vacation
Let’s look at the pros and cons of packing a hoodie on your next travel adventure.
The Pros of Packing a Hoodie for Travel
1. Versatile Comfort on the Road
A good hoodie is like a wearable comfort zone. It works in airports, on long flights, during cool evenings, or when early-morning coffee runs come with chilly air.
2. Built-In Travel Pillow
Your hoodie isn’t just clothing—it’s a neck pillow, lumbar cushion, or rolled-up headrest for a train ride or airport layover nap.
3. Stylish in Any Setting
Whether you’re exploring mountain trails, wandering city streets, or watching the sunset from a pier, a hoodie shines with relaxed, travel-ready style.
4. Sun, Wind (and even Rain) Protection
A lightweight travel hoodie can protect against sunburn on boat rides, cool winds on breezy beaches and even scorching weather on desert hikes. As a bonus, a hoodie can also work as a rain blocker in an unexpected pop-up thunderstorm.
The Cons of Packing a Hoodie on Vacation
1. Takes Up Valuable Space
Hoodies are bulkier than t-shirts, sweatshirts or light cardigans, so packing one can mean leaving another item behind—especially in a carry-on or if you’re capsule packing.
2. Slow to Dry
Unlike quick-dry travel shirts, hoodies can stay damp for hours if they get wet, which can be a problem for fast-moving itineraries.
3. Not Essential for Every Destination
If you’re heading somewhere hot and humid with minimal indoor AC, you might never actually need a hoodie. And the number one reason for overpacking is: I might need this…
Do You Need a Hoodie for Summer Travel?
The answer to this question is a possible yes. Even in warm weather, a travel hoodie can be useful:
Expert Hoodie-Packing Tips for Travelers
If you do plan to pack a hoodie for your travels, here are a few packing tips to keep in mind.
The Bottom Line: Should You Bring a Hoodie on Vacation?
If your destination has unpredictable weather, chilly mornings, or overactive AC, a hoodie is likely a good candidate to be a smart travel companion.
However, if you’re headed somewhere consistently hot with little need for extra layers, you can probably skip packing that hoodie without too much regret.
At 1923 Main Street, we design hoodies that earn their spot in your suitcase and for everyday wear. We create hoodies that work in multiple climates, keep you comfortable in transit, and still look great when you step out to explore.

If you’ve ever caught yourself staring out a window, daydreaming of cobblestone streets in Paris, sunrises over Bali rice fields, or the quiet serenity of a mountain trail, you’re not alone. Wanderlust—the irresistible urge to travel—is more than a trendy hashtag or a clever slogan on a hoodie. It’s a deeply rooted part of human psychology.
A Journey into the Mind of the Traveler
At 1923 Main Street, we live for that pull toward the horizon. But what is wanderlust, really? Why are some of us always dreaming of elsewhere?
Let’s take a journey into the mind.
Born to Roam: The Science of Wanderlust
Wanderlust isn’t just a personality quirk—it’s something researchers have studied and even tried to measure. There’s a term for the personality trait most associated with travel: “high openness to experience.” Psychologists define this as one of the Big Five personality traits, and it’s a strong predictor of someone’s love for novelty, adventure and yes—travel.
Studies have shown that people who score high in openness tend to:
It’s not just about loving travel—it’s about thriving on the unknown.
There’s also a genetic component. A study published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior suggested a connection between the DRD4-7R gene and a tendency to love exploring. People with this “wanderlust gene” tend to be more risk-taking and exploratory. Not everyone has it, but those who do are statistically more likely to crave far-off places.
The Eternal Elsewhere: Is Wanderlust Good or Bad?
Like anything, wanderlust has its pros and cons.
On the plus side:
But a constant yearning to be somewhere else can also have its downside.
If you’re always focused on “the next place,” it can be hard to appreciate the present. Psychologists refer to this as destination addiction—the idea that happiness is always “somewhere else,” just out of reach.
The trick? Embrace the adventure, but don’t lose sight of the beauty in everyday life. (That’s part of why we design our graphic tees and hoodies the way we do—to bring a little bit of your favorite places with you wherever you are—including enjoying those memories at home.)
The Social Media Effect: Inspiration or Illusion?
We all know that the digital age has turbocharged our wanderlust. Your scrolling fingers barely have time to rest before you’re seeing someone’s photo of Santorini sunsets or Patagonia peaks.
But beware, because social media can play a little game of angel/devil:
Angel:
Devil:
Research from the University of Pennsylvania showed that limiting social media use to 30 minutes per day can reduce feelings of loneliness and FOMO—especially relevant when every scroll seems to showcase another person’s passport stamp or sunrise mountain top photo from a faraway land.
The key? Let social media inspire your dreams, but not dictate your worth.
Are You Wired for Wanderlust?
Wondering if you’re part of the wanderlust tribe? Ask yourself:
If you nodded yes to most of those, chances are—wanderlust runs through your veins.
Final Boarding Call
Wanderlust isn’t something to be cured—it’s something to be celebrated.
The desire to travel pushes us to explore, connect and dream. Whether you’re planning your next trip or reminiscing about your last, 1923 Main Street is here to keep that adventurous spark alive. Our travel-inspired apparel lets you wear your passion for the world—wherever you are, wherever you're going next.
So go ahead—dream big, roam far, and bring a piece of the journey with you.

If there’s one thing that’s universal about traveling in the era of social media, it’s that travel can be tough on style.
Look Good, Feel Great: Mastering Travel Style Without Compromise
Between long flights, unpredictable weather and the need to pack light and be ready for that magical photo moment, many travelers feel like they have to choose between looking good and feeling comfortable.
But here’s where we can help: you don’t have to compromise. With a few smart strategies and the right wardrobe choices, you can build a travel outfit that delivers both fashion and function—no sacrifices required.
Why Fashion vs. Function Feels Like a Tug-of-War
There’s a reason this dilemma exists. From a logical perspective, travel demands practicality: wrinkle-resistant fabrics, breathable layers and outfits that can go the distance from airport lounges to late-night dinners. But fashion? That calls for intention, personality and a sense of style. Logic isn’t always at the forefront. The tension arises when we assume these goals are at odds. However, with a little pre-planning, they can work together just fine.
Modern travelers usually want clothing that’s versatile, expressive and wearable. That’s where the right design comes in: thoughtful pieces that layer well, flatter the body and still make a statement.
Style Choices That Don’t Sacrifice Comfort
To balance comfort and style, start by thinking about fabric and fit.
Look for breathable cotton, soft French terry, and flexible weaves that move with you, not against you. Whatever is most comfortable for you, begin there.
You may want to prioritize silhouettes that are relaxed without being shapeless: something like tailored joggers instead of bulky sweats, or a fitted tee instead of an oversized top. On the other hand, you may prefer big tees and wide-leg bottoms. Whatever the case, keep your style in mind and overlay comfort.
Color and graphic elements can elevate even the most casual outfit. A well-designed graphic t-shirt, for example, adds instant visual interest without adding bulk or weight. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference—especially when it reflects your passion for travel.
Travel Outfit Formulas that Just Work
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to travel fashion, but there are reliable formulas that work across body types, climates and destinations. Here are three of our favorites as examples:
These formulas rely on layers that are easy to shed or add, making them perfect for the unpredictable nature of travel.
