First show of the new year so let’s get right into it; grateful to make it to 40 in one piece and life has taught me so much through trial and error. Some things I wanted to happen and some things I tried to avoid happening. One thing for sure is that life will life. The universe has a way of showing you that God has the wheel for life. All we can do is accept it as it comes in combination with our goals and decisions we make. However, I wanted to touch on a few things I realized along the way.
Fight is essential for survival in this world, but knowing when to fight is the key. Some fight to prove themselves to others, some to fight to fight, some fight for the money, some fight for their own minds. What fight is worth it to you? What’s the good fight in your mind?
“Break up…to make up that’s all we do.” Plenty of relationships I’ve encountered in life, all came to teach me something about life and most importantly myself. We all made our share of mistakes and we made some memories along the way. Through it all, grateful for the lessons not losses.

Granted we as a society hear this but what is the actual possibility of this coming true to life? Believe it or not, I believe that it can happen. Let’s talk about it!
So if you were ever born on this earth in America, there’s a strong chance that you had some form of trauma, however, after a certain point…blaming your parents/family for it becomes outdated and then accountability for rehabilitation comes into play. So what are you going to do to aide in your own healing? Yes you are not responsible for what happened to you, but we can agree that we are responsible for how we interpret the pain, our thoughts on the action, and how we’re going to over come this.
“Love conquers all…” One would love to believe this statement from fairy tales and Disney stories but I believe it’s not that simple. Those of us who have been around you humans for sometime learn that it takes more than love to make a relationship, be with a mate, family, or friend to last the test of time. I a firm believer that we have at least one song that we can identify with the emotion behind the record. The artist and songwriter knew exactly what to say to get to your current situation through Melody and lyrics. Many songs have identified with what I was going through at that particular time and held a close connection to me each time I would hear them. I share a few of those records in this topic.
What things take you back to that childhood joyous feeling we once had? I was a major music head and loved a dope music video to go along with it to give my imagination some confirmation of the song I was playing often in my room. I also loved to get lost in the world of wrestling (“wrasslin” let my Pop tell it). Whether it was Hogan, Sting, Yokozuna, Ric Flair…the list goes on, but come Saturday and Sunday in the 90s, we were glued to the set to see WCW Saturday night main event and all American wrestling on USA. These are some of the joys of childhood that I would like to share with you.

I certainly had my own experiences with that ideology at one point in my life. Happily ever after and all that would come with it. Interesting how life goes as it wants versus what your expectations had lined up for yourself. All in all…it was all part of the process to present day. What a story to tell. I’ve have two on this subject of chasing love.The challenges of working on your masculine daily do not come easy all the time. It’s something that takes focus and attention to catching yourself revert back to old ways that once served you and choosing a more mature response to certain behaviors sent to knock you off your square. I’d like to share a few of the challenges associated with balancing between honing you frame and responding to negativity. We all wear masks of some sort and it doesn’t make you inauthentic for doing so in my perspective but it does mean that we reserve a side of us which may be a bit more comfortable with certain personalities versus sharing with the world our gifts. There was a time when I really did fake a lot of shit for survival with people but to recognize that allowed me to focus on not carrying myself as that toxic people pleaser but now learning to utilize the many hats/roles that one has when engaging with my peers. Throughout life, my fashion went through many phases and of those phases, I've noticed that when I put effort into the attire and it matching the venue for the particular event, I was treated differently, with more value than when I just threw some shit together. So I been working since I was 16 years old starting at McDonald’s on western branch blvd and throughout my career leading to my current profession, there’s been a common issue that tends to plague a work environment from my perspective…communication. The assumptions, the delivery, the lack of communicating vital information to get the objective completed. Let’s be honest with ourselves, we all have worn or currently wear masks depending on the environment we’re in. I know for sure that I wore masks in the past for fear of acceptance/rejection thus a people pleasing mask. However, there’s many more masks that can be considered. Let’s talk about it.
Growing up in Suffolk, Hampton roads area in general, I learned that there were many people who I admired in music and sports that came from our area. A lot of them were very inspiring to the school days version of me. The Neptunes, Clipse, Tim & Missy, Allen Iverson and a few others. They had their influence on me as well as those of us who were in school around that time. The jerseys, the lyrics, the fashion…you name it we wanted to emulate our favorite stars.
If you’re like me, healthy confrontation is a learned skill and as of recent at that. I don’t believe I ever handled much conflict in a healthy manner, either ran from it or leaned into it too strong with aggression. Finding the balance has been a challenge throughout life. I want to talk about how I learned to deal with confrontation on this topic.

Growing up, some of us had someone or something to look up to. If you were fortunate, some of them just so happened to be in your family. I was blessed to have a few that I looked up to in my family. Outside of my own parents and their influences on me in many ways, I wanted to highlight two of those people and their impact on my life coming up as well as an adult.
I believe it’s easier to take the test once you’ve seen the answers and if I was more confident lookin back at teenage years there’s many things that would be changed in my life growing up. Of course, if you change one thing you change everything, but let’s just entertain the topic any way.

How 2 Learn From The Years

So turning 40 is a landmark moment if you value that, but as a topic I wanted to shed light on some of the things I’ve learned throughout that time and perhaps it benefits you. I find that the years seem to have gone by pretty fast for me getting to this point. I’m grateful for everyone’s role past and present who’s been along for some of the moments.
Being a content creator, sometimes your perspective may trigger someone, it may be misinterpreted, or try to hack the narrative that you share. What I find to be important and mindful is that you’re responsible for what you say now how someone interpreted it. It has nothing to do with you especially when you’re focus on the path of healing. Many will project their own thoughts and feelings onto you, but stand firm in your mindset to share your perspective. I want to share how I manage those moments when being misunderstood by another human.
If you were born human, more than likely you’ve experienced some form of trauma in life. It may not have been referred to as trauma at the time, but as we get more educated on the concept of mental health and trauma’s effects on the brain I believe we can recognize it, embrace the emotions which come about from it and work towards learning to heal from it the best that we can. I look back at what I perceive that I went through and looking at it in a positive light just as much as the negative emotion as to how it made me more aware of my surroundings.

Fellas, how many times did you overlook some traits in a woman that would got you caught up in something detrimental to your life in the long run? How many times have we asked ourselves, how could I have missed the signs that could have saved me time and trauma to just focus on my purpose? It happens to us all and nothing to be ashamed of. Live and learn from the decisions we made when we didn’t know any better. I want to touch on a few signs that I would learn from my own personal experiences with the women of my journey.
I believe we all have our quirks about us when we get home from the hustle. I enjoy getting to the couch to just reflect on the day and what it taught me. Almost like a ritual to just sit down and take in the moment. A little bit of music and meditation goes a long way for me.
As you get older and get into the work force, you find yourself working so much to provide for yourself as well as your family you can forget to just…be. Sometimes it seems as if time slips away from you and before you know it, you don’t get to spend much time with the ones you love. Time is something that keeps going no matter what we’re working on in life. You don’t know the last time you’ll see someone or hear their voice. Sometimes you just wish you had more time for them.
