Day 24: Fasting for purity
Ezra 9:5
And at the evening sacrifice I rose from my fasting, with my garment and my cloak torn, and fell upon my knees and spread out my hands to the LORD my God….
People of Israel came in 3 groups from Babylonian captivity. First group under the leadership of Jerubbabel. Second group under the leadership of Ezra and third under the leadership of Nehemiah. The gap between first and second groups was about 75-80 years. By the time Ezra came….he was told that people of God again got into mixed marriages. This was the main reason for the cleansing during Noah’s flood, for judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah, for the backsliding of Israelites, for the backsliding of Solomon, Ahab……
Ezra fasted and prayed confessing the faithlessness of his people and for the purity.
