In Episode four we are back in our studio at 42Workspace in the heart of Rotterdam, and we welcome another hero of the local ecosystem turned international entrepreneur: Esther O'Callaghan. Esther, who started her career selling records at a music shop, moved on to owning her own record shop in Manchester and was a successful DJ in the early 2000's. She then moved on to fight (youth) poverty in underdeveloped areas in the UK. Fast-forward to the present day and Esther is currently working on hundo.xyz - a web3 learning platform focused on preparing young people for the future of work. With hundo.xyz being selected for the Hub71 incubator program in Abu Dhabi, Esther now spends her time between Abu Dhabi and Rotterdam. For episode 3 I travelled to the other side of the world to sit down with serial entrepreneur Ollie Smeenk, who is born into an entrepreneurial family in the Netherlands, grew up in Tanzania, and lives in Singapore now.
We spoke about Ollie's first steps as an entrepreneur: opening a shisha (or hookah) cafe in Tanzania, how it is to do business there, his transition to IoT and starting businesses with his dad, as well as becoming CEO of SODAQ at the tender age of 27. Finally, we touch upon his transition from entrepreneur to starting a new career working for a sustainability startup in South-East Asia.
