Abstract Essay
Abstract Essay, now in its fifth season, features Roy Coughlan—esteemed Podcast Coach and industry guide—as my guest. In this episode, he shares his expertise on storytelling, audience connection, and building impactful audio platforms, offering listeners practical wisdom and inspiration to elevate their creative voice.
Roy Coughlan Podcast Coach I have founded over 20 companies across 5 countries. My entrepreneurial journey began at age 9 when I washed cars, followed by delivering newspapers at 11 and mowing lawns at 14. I transformed from being very shy to achieving success in numerous speaking competitions, ultimately reaching the finals in 5 countries with Toastmasters. I earned the title of Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) within just 3 years. Additionally, I performed at an open mic TEDx event and delivered a comedy speech. I experienced significant ups and downs, going from owning multiple properties and enjoying a substantial bank balance to losing everything, including my home and all my possessions, while personally facing a $5 million liability. I launched 6 podcasts, with 4 reaching the top 0.5% of all podcasts and the fifth currently at 1%. To date, I have recorded over 1500 episodes, editing each one myself. In light of global corruption, I have committed myself to exposing these issues while proposing solutions to assist others in doing the same. I also read around 100 books each year. Abstract Essay
Abstract Essay, now in its fifth season, features Brad Church—retired business analyst and a devoted follower of Jesus for over 60 years—as my guest.
Brad Church Build a faith that endures - cultivate a relationship with Jesus first came to faith in Jesus at the age of six, so I have been dealing with this issue called faith for over 60 years. Many times, faith in Jesus is presented to us as a cure-all for life’s problems. I do believe that it is, but there is frequently an expectation that new believers have that when they come to faith in Christ that everything in wrong their life will instantly, or quickly, get fixed; that all of life’s problems will be resolved. There is nothing further from the truth. We do people a disservice if we give them that impression. When we don’t see our expectation met, we lose heart and hope and turn away from a faith that will not only save us but will give us fulfillment like we have never known. I wrote The Stranger’s Conflict out of my own struggle to understand how to live life considering my faith in Christ. I found myself disillusioned and living with a level of self-condemnation that had me paralyzed, frustrated, and sometimes angry. Like a lot of believers in Christ today I read my Bible, I prayed, and I went to church, but many times I was hiding behind a mask of religiosity with which everyone was comfortable. But deep down, I felt like I was missing a vitality in my faith that everyone else was enjoying. By understanding how God made us and why we live in conflict with sin, I was able to embrace God’s forgiveness and grace like never before in my life. I became more transparent and was able to be vulnerable because I grew to understand everyone else is living with the same struggles that I was facing. I am no longer living life by the checklist, but live life in daily relationship with Jesus. The Stranger’s Conflict was written to help believers in Jesus better understand how to live with the conflict in which we are all engaged. It explores the root causes of the conflict and reveals the obstacles we face as followers of Christ. Most importantly, the book presents what I discovered about God’s solution for living a life of victory in this life as we look forward to eternity with Him in glory. Abstract Essay, now in its fifth season, features Teddy Bloom of Ride4Rights—sharing the powerful story behind a cross-country bike protest that champions justice, awareness, and the courage to spark change.
Teddy Bloom Ride4Rights: A Bike Protest Across America Teddy, a Santa Fe local, started his ride April 20th. His bicycle ride began at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, and culminates at the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Along the way, he invites other riders to join him in his stops at state capitals and other key locations across the country. The ride serves as a peaceful protest against the heightened polarization and divisiveness in today’s American political landscape. Teddy’s aim is to: - Elevate the importance of free speech For centuries, the United States of America has been a pillar of the sharing of new ideologies freely without the fear of persecution. The ability to share political opinions and protest without the fear of retaliation and/or political imprisonment is vital to American culture. - Advocate for equal justice under the law All people on American soil have the right to the U.S. justice system regardless of citizenship status. This includes, but is not limited to, a speedy fair trial and access to a lawyer. The incarceration of any arrested person should take place within a facility inside U.S. borders that is subject to federal and/or state regulations. Abstract Essay, now in its fifth season, features Kevin Hipes—seasoned entrepreneur and commercial real estate expert—as my guest, offering sharp insights on strategy, resilience, and the mindset required to navigate complex markets.
Kevin Hipes Living Loud: Turning Life’s Highs and Lows into Stories That Inspire Kevin Hipes went from street kid in Queens to garage-rock musician, hippie factory worker, and eventually a commercial real estate leader and author. He’s built, lost, and rebuilt businesses. He’s been a local commissioner, a developer turning around retail and apartment projects, and now writes about the human side of success in Book of Me. What’s compelling for your audience is not just his trajectory, but the lessons he’s pulled out along the way: Resilience & reinvention: When real estate crashed, Kevin lost much—and came back. He’s not selling a fairy tale; he’s lived failure and knows how to turn it around. From art to commerce: His days in a rock band and as a hippie taught him creativity, risk-taking, and authenticity—skills he later applied to business. That gives him a rare cross-disciplinary perspective. Mental health & vulnerability: He’s walked through depression, been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in midlife, and speaks openly about it. He shows people that strength and struggle aren’t mutually exclusive. Practical entrepreneurship + real estate: He’s done deals, overseen large portfolios, and built companies. He offers actionable takeaways—how to evaluate deals, manage risk, lead teams, pivot when necessary. Abstract Essay, now in its fifth season, features Phyllis Leavitt, MA — author and psychotherapist — as my guest.
America in Therapy: A New Approach to Hope and Healing for a Nation in Crisis America in Therapy presents an unprecedented perspective, envisioning the entire nation as a patient in dire need of therapy.  In the first book of its kind, Leavitt highlights a crucial missing piece from national political discourse – the declining state of America’s mental health – and emphasizes that addressing our nation’s ills from a psychological perspective takes us beyond partisanship altogether. Through a blend of personal anecdotes, client case studies, and historical insights, she correlates the destructive dynamics in families with the harmful behaviors of influential institutions and leaders. Using principles like Family Systems Theory and her own innovative concepts, Leavitt paints a vivid picture of the consequences of untreated societal trauma. America in Therapy not only informs but also inspires actions towards reconciliation, unity, and healing. Aimed at a diverse audience, from social reformers to young adults navigating an uncertain future, Leavitt’s work underscores See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
