Bodies of Horror chats about holiday classic Gremlins (1984), but Nichole is keeping the discussion centered on disability, caregiving, and failed systems of care.
What begins as a chaotic holiday creature feature reveals deeper anxieties about dependency, rigid rules, moral panic, and who society deems “too much” to support. Gremlins asks whether the real horror lies not in difference, but in our refusal to build structures capable of sustaining it.

Terry and Joe descend upon Li Tolqa to discuss Brandon Cronenberg's third film, Infinity Pool (2023), which features a divisive Mia Goth performance (we *love* it BTW). It also has numerous intriguing storylines that meander a bit by the end, but perhaps that's the whole point?
Plus: the downbeat ending; satire & politics; James as an emasculated dog; and anticipation for Cronenberg's new space-set film

For this episode, Nichole is taking a look at 2016’s The Autopsy of Jane Doe. A father-and-son coroner pair perform an autopsy on an unidentified woman and, as her secrets get revealed, she begins to represent so many bodies of horror, including bodies dismissed, bodies treated as inhuman, and bodies controlled. As the two men try to “help” her, they do so while using the tools that caused her pain and destruction in the first place.

For the second last Jennifer Lynch text, Terry and Joe are trying something different. Considering Hisss (2010) had a famously troubled production, we're also including director Penny Vozniak's documentary Despite The Gods (2012), which chronicles the making of the film.
The doc is an essential part of the viewing experience in order to understand what happened in India and why Lynch doesn't claim Hisss as her own.
Plus: praising star Mallika Sherawat and the practical snake effects, debating the broad comedy, and why George States doesn't work as a villain for us.

Get out of the lake and toss the flowers because Jenn, Gena, and Joe have re-entered the Oscar race with a look at Nia DaCosta's update of Ibsen's famous play, Hedda (2025).
Starring a dazzling Tessa Thompson and a commanding Nina Hoss, this 1950-set all-in-one-night film race & queer swaps characters to breathe new life into the material. Helped by a propulsive score, *gorgeous* costumes and prowling camerawork, this one really worked for us!

Bodies of Horror is ending National Family Caregivers Month with a focus on “paid” or “professional” caregivers. This may include hospice nurses and others that help provide skilled or medical care when family caregivers need the support.
2005’s The Skeleton Key takes on weighty themes of generational trauma, racism and faith in the wrapping of a gothic ghost/haunted house story. Does it handle these themes well? Welp…

Joe and Terry are psyched to be back as we discuss our favorite Brandon Cronenberg film, 2020's Possessor.
Featuring special effects that Cronenberg and cinematographer Karim Hussain spent years developing, as well a revelatory work from Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott, this film is a total trip.
Plus: ultra gory violence, a reticence to engage with queer readings, and *that* ending

Bodies of Horror is going all-out penny arcade nightmare with Julie Taymor’s 1999 film, Titus. That’s right: the pod is in iambic pentameter while discussing this Shakespearean horror, what it's like to experience bodily trauma, the impact it has on the family and caregiver(s), and the toll of revenge on the body.

Terry and Joe are back to discuss Jennifer Lynch's sophomore feature, 2008's Surveillance. This twisty crime thriller features a great cast (many of whom are playing against type) and may be the closest thing to Lynch's uncompromised vision as a creator.
Plus: Terry's first time viewing reaction, Joe's fave character, grisly violence, and the unusual genesis of the project.

Flag that video because Gena, Jenn and Joe are working in content moderation with Uta Briesewitz's American Sweatshop (2025). Starring Riverdale's Lili Reinhart as a woman-turned-vigilante, this film is part of a burgeoning subgenre we're calling "Good For Her...Oops, she took it too far."
Plus: Joel Fry's dangerous character, debate if the film is a call to activism, interchangeable men, and creating a perfect watchlist along with Red Rooms, MFA and The Columnist

Terry and Joe cross over the other side of the podcast as we inject ourselves with Brandon Cronenberg's feature debut, Antiviral (2012).
It's hard not to compare the film to his famous father's work, what with the sterile setting, the corporate espionage, and the body horror elements. There's promise here, but the movie feels too indebted to Cronenberg senior.

Ti West’s 2009 film House of the Devil is a pitch-perfect 70’s/80’s throwback that uses a familiar caregiver premise to pinpoint the perils of aging, caring for a loved one, and dependence. While we have looked at caregiving in a number of episodes, Nichole finds this film puts the societal ideas of caregiving right up front.

Terry and Joe return for a limited series on the children of David Lynch and David Cronenberg.
First up: Jennifer Lynch's feature film debut, Boxing Helena (1993) which drew vicious reviews and accusations of misogyny for its story of a clearly mentally ill man (Julian Sands) who abducts and mutilates the titular object of his affection (Sherilyn Fenn).
While we're not sold on the film as a whole (it's a bit sleepy), it seems as though critics purposefully misread the film, which is an obvious male fantasy.
Plus: Lynch's time in director jail, a HOT Bill Paxton, and debate about what we know of the real Helena

Bryan and Joe reunite to discuss the 25th anniversary of Scott Derrickson's Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) and they've brought along a fan of the film: Ari Drew!
The film finds Craig Sheffer returning to a Clive Barker property after Nightbreed, and, in the first of the DTV sequels, focuses its narrative on a male cop protagonist.
Plus: tagging in Kari Wuhrer, practical FX and new Cenobites, David Lynch noir vibes, and a game changing way to accept Pinhead's new role as a punishing figure.
