Episode 345: Good Movie Podcast?: Episode 13: Death Becomes Her (1992)
(Thunder Crash) Tonight, on Good Movie Podcast? we promise an eternal rivalry and a touch of magic in a world obsessed with science. Within the swirling  purple potion of immortality Jonathan and Dan are ready for a comedic bloodbath in Robert Zemeckis's eternal classic Death Becomes Her (1993).  Madeline Ashton and Helen Sharp have been at each other's throats (much like our two hosts) for as long as they can remember. When famed surgeon of the stars, Ernest Menville is thrown in the mix the claws come out. In a story as old as time, when beauty fades these two women will do whatever it takes to stay young forever and come out on top. Luckily for them there is one ancient lady dealing just the sort of a elixir they have been looking for.  When things turn violets heads start spinning, shotguns are fired, and many bodies are thrown down staircases. We advise our listeners to learn from this morality tale, and to take care of themselves. Sempre Viva! Live Forever! Episode 343: Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie (1999)
Today on Anime Was Not A Mistake our humble little podcast is whisked away to Hong Kong in the hopes of tracking down the origin of the clow cards. In, Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie (1999) this strange spellbound land houses a mysterious magic all of its own. With Sakura and co searching for a brief glimpse of insight with Clow Reeds murky past, little do they know that flowing love, rushing revenge, and dripping danger lurks behind every ornamented corner. With a plot that is vastly different between English Dub and Japanese Sub there is much discussion to be had on the story at hand. However, Dan and Jonathan certainly enjoy hearing the Nelvana dub actors and their Americanized flourishes. Anime Was (Not) A Mistake
Episode 338: Sinister Six XLVII: Track of the Moon Beast (1976)
Spooktoberfest is in the rearview mirror, but we’ve taken a wrong turn into much more sinister territory. Selected for your listening displeasure is 1976’s Track of the Moon Beast, a creature feature mentioned only briefly in bad movie folktales. A shirtless mineralogist named Paul is struck by a lunar meteorite, a microscopic fragment of which becomes lodged in his head. Every night from that point on, when exposed to moonlight, Paul transforms into a reptilian monster and goes on a murderous rampage. Paul’s friend Johnny Longbow, an anthropology professor and lister of stew ingredients, is recruited by the local sheriff to help him solve this very simple mystery. Also present is the photographer Kathy, who falls deeply in love with Paul in spite of his nightly lizard-outs. Legends speak of a similar reptilian creature that appeared centuries earlier, claiming many lives before randomly exploding. Is Paul doomed to meet the same fiery end? Or will Kathy’s love and Johnny’s bored indifference be enough to finally defeat the Moon Beast? Make sure your monitor lizard is locked up, schedule an appointment with a very sad doctor, and tune your tiny television set to today’s badly lit episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! Episode 337: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2025: Talk To Me (2022)
Spooktoberfest 2025 comes to a close with the icy embrace of a porcelain hand. In a thunderous horror feature film debut from Down Under, Jonathan and Daniel consult with the spirts once more in the Phillippou brothers modern horror classic Talk To Me (2022). When Mia is in mourning, will she succumb to the intoxicating high that only a glimpse into the eternal hereafter promises. In this episode; kangaroos that should have looked both ways, toe sucking galore, excellent teenage actors, and a theory that someone probably has already coined that Jonathan swears is his alone. What a surprise, he's signing Edith Piaf again and swearing he is possessed by the immortal chanteuse. Anyways, settle in for something scary, light the candle and invite Anime Was (Not) A Mistake in for one final horrific time this year. Or perhaps not... Anime Was (Not) A Mistake
Episode 336: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2025: Arachnophobia (1992)
Spooktoberfest takes a lighter turn with the 1992 horror-comedy classic Arachnophobia. Dr. Ross Jennings leaves San Francisco behind and moves his family to the sleepy town of Canaima, California. While Jennings receives a less-than-warm welcome from the townspeople, another unexpected guest arrives. Having hitched a ride back with a deceased resident, a dangerous new species of spider decides to sink its fangs into Canaima. Operating less like an arachnid and more like a military leader, the “General” spawns a wave of hybrid spiders with an (instantly) lethal bite. As these spiders ravage the local ecosystem, and claim a number of Jenning’s friends and patients, the doctor teams up with an eccentric exterminator and a snooty scientist to face this creepy crisis. Our heroes are certain that the General must be operating out of a central nest, but will they manage to find it before everything spins out of control? Open that bottle of wine you’ve been saving, and avoid bringing snacks into the morgue, for today’s eight-legged episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake! Episode 335: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2025: Hush: The Shush Cut (2024)
Shhhh you'll scare the Seigel! Spooktoberfest 2025 continues with a quick trip into the Mike Flanaganverse with a rapid, yet silent, knock on the window, Hush: The Shush Cut (2024). In a home invasion film built for a Netflix audience we see just how one intrepid heroine can fight off a home invasion with only her wits and author's brain to help her. This version of the film is in black and white, and it is recommended that you watch on maximum volume for that sweet, sweet tension. With Jonathan at the helm, you can rest assured that there is a masterful theme to be guessed that Dan surely didn't arrive at prematurely. Prepare your crossbow, let the cat out, and put your listening ears on! Episode 334: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2025: Darkman (1990)
Spooktoberfest takes a super-heroic turn as we shine a light on 1990’s Darkman. Directed by the amazing Sam Raimi over a decade before he tackled Spider-Man, Darkman features a very different sort of crimefighter. Dr. Peyton Westlake is busy developing a revolutionary “synthetic skin” intended to treat burn victims, but the substance is unable to handle prolonged exposure to light. Westlake is soon forced to don his own creation after being attacked and disfigured by crime boss Robert G. Durant. Dead to the world, Westlake adopts a variety of new faces as he sabotages Durant’s operation from within. Westlake uncovers a larger scheme involving the ambitious real estate mogul Louis Strack, who has his eyes on Westlake’s girlfriend Julie. Desperate to rebuild his life with Julie, Westlake continues fighting and forging new masks. But as “Darkman” emerges from the shadows of Westlake’s mind, how much of a future can the doctor hope to have? Episode 332: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2025: The Thing (1982)
Awakened from its icy slumber, our latest Spooktoberfest begins with John Carpenter’s 1982 cult classic The Thing. At a research base in Antarctica, twelve men are preparing for a long winter when things take an unexpected turn. An alien creature enters their midst in the form of a dog, but they soon discover that this entity can mimic the appearance and behavior of any living thing. MacReady, the camp’s helicopter pilot, attempts to lead the other men through this bizarre ordeal before it claims more lives. But as the Thing grows smarter and the group splinters apart, MacReady’s focus shifts from staying alive to winning at any cost. Episode 326: Sinister Six XLVI: A*P*E (1976)
Another round of Sinister Six comes to a close, but our monkey business is far from over. 1976’s A*P*E confronts us with an all-too-familiar question: “What If King Kong, But No Plot?” The answer may shock you. A 36-foot-tall gorilla escapes his captors at sea, battles an extra-large shark, and then makes landfall in South Korea. Also visiting the country is movie star Marilyn Baker, quickly joined by her old flame, “jokester” journalist Tom Rose. The Korean and U.S. militaries are hesitant to believe reports about A*P*E roaming the countryside, so the giant monster manages to elude them for about 80 minutes of runtime. Not helping matters is Col. Davis being perpetually drunk and Capt. Kim giving Tom free jeeps. Ultimately, the only thing capable of stopping A*P*E is the viewer turning the movie off once the 15-minute montage finale begins.
