In this spooky episode, Jon and Alexander talk monsters, ghosts and general weirdness in the world of antiques. But we start with a toast to Jon's late father, a larger than life character who will be greatly missed. Then we hear how Alexander was literally confronted with a creature from his nightmares, and the time when Jon attempted to shoot a ghost with a BB gun. And the two try to analyse a bit of video footage seeming to show some poltergeist activity at a saleroom in Royal Wootton Bassett. In a slightly different version of 'Did They Get It Wrong', we hear about two cases from the same auction house of under-valuing and over-valuing (arguably). Heavy on the ASMR, in this episode Jonny and Alexander open a bottle of Rioja and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps while discussing the latest news in the world of antiques. The rambling convo involves Christie's dropping digital art, Sotheby's massive losses and the Thornhill collection's new (temporary) home. Jonny also reveals why he doesn't like Moorcroft or Della Robbia while Alexander tries to disagree agreeably. Alexander reveals what he's been up to in Leeds and Nottingham in the last few weeks. And Jonny remembers how Alexander has a hilarious pet name for his wife.

Jon and Alexander are BACK and finally in double figures! Yes, episode 10 is all about trends (a theme suggested by a lovely listener) from the Hollywood style and how it can be overdone (yes, Mr Trump we're talking to you and what you've done to the oval office) as well as Seiko watches, generation Z, streetwear, urban art, Labubu Monsters and NFTs. There's a return of 'Did They Get It Wrong' and plenty of ASMR as your two hosts slurp beer and wine and munch on Monster Claw snacks in celebration of making it this far. Introduced by the great King Donald 1st of America, Jon and Alexander catch up on what they've been up to for the last seven months and rake over the remnants of what might have been a great show in January, predicting 2025 with laser precision, had the boys actually managed to be professional and coordinate their diaries. They also talk about those companies that thrust grubby pamphlets through your door promising top cash for gold and antiques and making out like selling at auction is a really bad thing. Boooo, how dare they?

The podcast by two guys who are a little bit addicted to antiques. Jon and Alexander are back in the Torpedo Room for another rambling chat, this time about the gradual disappearance of the weekly general auction. Is it on the way out or is there still a future for this time honoured and well loved part of the antiques trade? We hear about what Alexander used to get up to in the back of his Ford Mondeo in the good old days, Jon expresses his dislike of specialist auctions and reveals how he'd do it if he ran his own saleroom, and Alexander risks offending the entire nation of Australia. Plus, your hosts reveal the topic of the next ep. Don't forget to rate and review the show on your pod-catcher of choice and get in touch via the socials if you want to send a message to Jon and Alexander or suggest topics for future episodes.

In this inaugural episode of the Antiques Anonymous podcast, Jon and Alexander have a long, rambling convo about the changing relationship between antique dealers and auctioneers. You'll hear why Alexander ended up in Bermuda dressed as a Victorian pottery magnate, and why Jonny will give you a slap if you call something 'vintage'. Enjoy!
