In the current era of college football, Cal has bucked the trend in many ways. Justin Wilcox has been able to keep most of his coaching staff intact for years, but that is changing. On the heels of a 6-6 regular season, the eighth-year head coach has made sweeping changes to the Bears' staff in the weeks following the final loss against SMU.
Out is Mike Bloesch as offensive coordinator, and in has stepped former Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin along with new offensive staffers Kyle Cefalo, Nick Rolovich and Famika Anae (this episode was recorded before Anae's hiring was made official).
Those are not the only changes happening in Berkeley, either.
This week the Bears learned that they will need a new quarterback next season after team leader and face of the program Fernando Mendoza surprisingly announced his entrance into the transfer portal after three seasons at Cal.
There is also a bowl game to get ready for as the Bears prepare to face UNLV in the LA Bowl this week at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
There is a lot to get to this week and Matt Moreno and Maria Kholodova are back again to discuss all of it in our latest episode of the Bear With Us podcast.

It's award season around college football, and we celebrate by handing out some of our own awards to the Cal football team following the end of the regular season. The Bears closed out their schedule with a lopsided 38-6 loss to top-10 opponent SMU last weekend and now await their bowl destination.
In the latest episode of the Bear With Us podcast, Golden Bear Report's Matt Moreno and special guest Maria Kholodova discuss the end of the regular season, the news that Justin Wilcox will be looking for his fourth offensive coordinator in four years, recapping what went down for Cal on National Signing Day and a look at the possible bowl locations for the Bears.
We have a packed episode, so make sure to settle in and enjoy our look back at the regular season.
The 127th Big Game is set to play out Saturday as Cal and Stanford meet up once again in the second-longest rivalry in the West. The Stanford Axe has remained in Berkeley for a few years as the Bears have built a three-game winning streak in the matchup with their last loss coming in a 24-23 game at California Memorial Stadium in 2020.
Since then the Bears have controlled the matchup including collecting a 27-15 victory last year across the Bay. Cal still trails in the matchup overall with the Cardinal leading the all-time matchup, 65-50-1.
Justin Wilcox's team is still seeking out bowl eligibility while Cal alum and Stanford head coach Troy Taylor is looking for his team to build off of its win over Louisville last weekend.
In our latest podcast episode, Matt Moreno and Maria Kholodova are joined by CardinalSportsReport's Ben Parker for some perspective from the other side and to talk all things Big Game.
Find out what you need to know ahead of the rivalry matchup plus learn who we're picking to come away with a victory and the Stanford Axe on Saturday.
