Series: A Divine Disruption: Jesus Changes Everything
Mary of Nazareth's life was unfolding as she expected it to, and in the same way she'd seen a hundred times before in the lives of a hundred other women in her village. The angel's visit changed everything - and when Mary learned of her place in God's plan, she embraced it, saying "Behold, I am the Lord's servant - let it be to me according to His word."
All of us will face similar moments - God will interrupt our plans, and we'll have to choose whether to embrace His will, or resist it. Which it will be depends on whom we trust to lead our lives: God, or ourselves.

Series: Fruitful: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit
In this last message, we consider the one fruit in the list that we can't learn by looking at God's example - since He has no evil impulses that need to be restrained.
Instead, self-control is what the Spirit produces in us as we learn delayed gratification - saying no to something now, in order to experience something a hundred times better later, in the Kingdom. That's not a con; it's a promise from the Lord Jesus Himself.

In our culture, those who are gentle and meek are often seen as weak. They're not. For those who all God to live His life through them, He will produce in them the super-power that is gentleness.
That gentleness is beautifully illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son, and embodied in Jesus Himself.

Many of us crave affirmation, praise, or to be known as 'the best' at whatever we do. God's metric is different. He praises people not for their performance or success, but their faithfulness with what He has entrusted to them.
In other words, faithfulness isn't about us or our great faith in God; faithfulness is a measure of how much God can trust us.

Goodness may well be the hardest of all the fruit to practice, because goodness isn't "fair". God hasn't always given us what we felt we'd earned or deserved, but God has always been good to us. In the same way, He calls us to treat each other according to His goodness - not merit.
This message is a challenge to treat one another - and ourselves - with goodness, since it's goodness - not fairness - that's a fruit of the Spirit.

Series: Fruitful: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit
We struggle to treat each other with kindness because revenge and 'payback' come so much more easily in this culture. How do we become kind?
In this message, our friend Lane Fusilier walks us through the Scripture - and his own life - to show that kindness is the fruit of believing that despite what we deserve, God has been kind to us. As He is allowed to live His life through us, God produces in us a supernatural kindness.

Patience may seem like a strange thing to include alongside love, joy, and peace, as the fruit of the Spirit, but patience is a super important part of a healthy, holy life.
In this message, our friend Sarah Robinson walks through the life of Jesus, showing how He perfectly illustrates patience with Himself, with others, and even with God.

God's peace is far more than just the absence of war or violence. Peace is the opposite of worry, fear, and anxiety. In our anxious world, we are desperate for peace, and God offers peace by His Spirit as He is allowed to live His life through us.
In this message we get to see several pictures of what it looks like when God's people learn to trust God to run the universe, and so, find peace.

Do you remember what joy feels like? Many of us think God is indifferent as to whether we enjoy Him or not. As though all He cares about is being obeyed.
In this message, we're introduced (or re-introduced) to the God of joy, and invited to find in Jesus an all-satisfying treasure, greater than anything else the world has to offer.

This message is the first in a nine-part study of the fruit of the Spirit. Here, we're introduced to the Spirit and His fruit, and invited to consider the first fruit in the list: love.
What happens when we compare the ways the world understands love with the love that is revealed to us in God? We see a love that He'll produce in us when He is allowed to live His life through us!

A third difference between going to church and BEING the church is about how we think about sharing Jesus with others: What we say about Jesus matters, and HOW we say it REALLY matters.
In this message, we learned that the Church is sent - by Jesus, to embody the Good News in our communities, schools, workplaces, and churches - as ambassadors of Christ.

Another difference between those who merely GO to church and those who are BEING the church is how we treat each other in community. We will ALL find our way into communities of various kinds.
In this messages we learned what kind of community we're made for, and are challenged to find it - and commit.

The difference between GOING to church and BEING the church can be seen in how we do discipleship differently: It's not about believing a bunch of true things ABOUT Jesus, but becoming like Him.
In this message we shared how we as a church understand discipleship, using the three Orthos: Orthodoxy (right belief), Orthopathy (right attitudes), and Orthopraxy (right actions).

When the Lord was being challenged about whether it's right to pay taxes to Caesar or not, He used it as an opportunity to teach us about the value of a person, compared to the value of a coin. In this message, our friend and neighbour Hobbe Smit shares that God's image is stamped on us and asks: what difference does that make?

Just before the miracle of the loaves and fishes, Jesus' disciples couldn't imagine HOW they'd be able to look after all these people. Their perspective was limited by sight, not by faith. In this message, our friend and AGC President Bill Allan shows us that Jesus can be trusted to meet our needs - big ones and small ones.

How we relate to money can show where we've put our trust, but more often, it shows where our trust is NOT. We fear to lose, we fear to go without. As God's people we think we trust God to provide, so why are we just as anxious as anyone else?

One of the reasons we're more often managed by our money than managers of our money is because we fail to see it as a tool entrusted to us by God. In this message, our friend John Garner teaches through the ancient, gutsy, counter-cultural prayer from Proverbs 30:
"Give me neither poverty or wealth"
