In this reflective and grounded episode, Anthony and I look back on the past year through the lens of entrepreneurship, personal growth, and sustainability; both in business and in life.
The conversation explores why consistency matters more than motivation, especially when progress feels slow or invisible. Rather than chasing bursts of inspiration, we discuss how showing up day after day, imperfect but committed, creates momentum that compounds over time.
A major theme of the episode is personal sustainability. Success is meaningless if it comes at the cost of burnout, and this episode dives into why self-care isn’t a luxury, but a strategic necessity. From protecting energy to setting boundaries, we unpack how taking care of yourself directly impacts long-term performance and clarity.
We also talk about the concept of selective motion: learning when to say no. Not every opportunity is meant for you, and saying yes to everything can dilute focus, values, and effectiveness. This episode highlights how alignment, not activity, is what truly drives meaningful growth.
Another key takeaway is the importance of putting yourself out there, even when things aren’t perfect. Growth only happens through action, reflection, and iteration. Whether it’s launching a project, starting a business, or sharing your ideas publicly, you can’t learn without being willing to be seen, and sometimes failing along the way.
Finally, we reflect on how surrounding yourself with the right people, maintaining the right mindset, and committing to continuous improvement can dramatically accelerate both personal and professional progress.
This episode is for entrepreneurs, creatives, and anyone focused on long-term growth who wants to build success that’s not just impressive, but sustainable.
In this episode of Blueprint Japan, Anthony Griffin from Saga Consulting joins me to explore the surprising power of rest, creativity, and financial mindfulness for solo entrepreneurs in Japan.

The brain’s Default Mode Network and how it fuels problem-solving.
The Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) and how connecting with nature restores focus and mental energy.
Understanding the concept of “enough” — balancing income, lifestyle, and rest.
Practical tips on saving money, living below your means, and the ‘save for winter’ strategy.
If you’re building a business in Japan or simply seeking more balance, this episode offers actionable insights to recharge your mind, boost creativity, and rethink how you approach work, rest, and money.

Japan has just rewritten the rules for foreign founders. The new Business Manager visa now requires ¥30 million in capital, a full-time Japanese employee, and verified business plans. In this episode, Oğuzhan breaks down what’s changing, why it matters, and how it could reshape entrepreneurship in Japan.
In this episode, we explore what it takes to enter Japan’s business orbit. Welcome to Blueprint Japan, a podcast about building a life and business in Japan, honestly and from the ground up.
My name is Oğuzhan. Born and raised in a Turkish household in Switzerland, now based in Tokyo. A few years ago, I came to Japan as a tourist, and ended up becoming the first person in the country to receive the J-FIND visa. Since then, I’ve been navigating everything from starting a creative studio to figuring out daily life in a place I admire.
This show is about building in public. There’s no hype, no hacks, just real conversations, personal learnings, and stories from others doing meaningful work. Some episodes are solo: the habits that help, the mistakes I’ve made, and what I’m still figuring out. Other times, I sit down with founders, mentors, friends, and creatives, people who are kind enough to share what goes on behind the scenes.
Whether you’re just starting out, considering moving to Japan, or wondering if you should stay, my hope is this podcast makes your journey feel a little less lonely, and a lot more doable.
Let’s get started. Oğuzhan
