Brigadier!
S2E4 - A Can of Beans, And Other Booby-Trapping Materials (Apr. 2-4, 1937)

On this episode of Brigadier, our characters find themselves hunting down their first cache, almost getting killed by a German Springmine, and rejoicing when it's a dud. The cache contains a Lewis Gun, something which will be of great use in their continuing fight. They also meet Jacobson, the elusive drunkard-by-night-bombsmith-by-day himself. Then they go to look for a cache which was far from well-hidden, and encounter a Nationalist sniper. In all, not much gets done, but some changes have been made so that everyone will know what time to show up on Zoom.

Brigadier!
S2E3 - You Can Call Me Al (Apr. 1-2, 1937)

On this episode, Sam is gone, and the characters make their way to Luarca, to link up with resistance fighters. They were told that the resistance in Luarca was thriving, although this quickly proves not to be the case.

The Nationalists diverted almost 10,000 soldiers to the city, nearly doubling its population. This occurred nearly 2 months ago, and the resistance was mostly snuffed out.

Although this "resistance" has been reduced to a few dozen fragmented cells, each with 5 men or less, Alfredo and Mateo Abascal are hopeful that they can rebuild it to give the Nationalists hell in the region ahead of the Soviet advance in the north.

The party, however, is skeptical. The resistance here lacks functional weaponry, knowledge of small-unit urban tactics, and any real support. What they do have, however, are specialists. Alfredo is a gunsmith, and there's a man named Johnson in one of the other cells. Johnson is rather reclusive, but he does occasionally make himself known by blowing up local officers' cars.

They still have guns, they've just been hidden away, Mateo assures the party.

It's clear that this is a million-to-one chance, but if the party can pull it off, Luarca should collapse just as the Soviets come rolling through, leaving a hole in the Nationalist defense that could allow for greater exploitation.

Then, Mateo sends the party after some other resistance members who have escaped reprisals.

The party collects two of them, and shortly after, the Zoom breaks down.

S2EA A Trial by Fire (Non-Continuous and Non-Canon)

On this episode, we test out the tactical combat setup, which is simply a webcam and a battlemat, but still seems to work. Sam forgets that you can do a move and attack, and grenades are rather ineffective.

S2E2 - A Farewell to Some Good Men (Mar. 23, 1937)

On this episode, we say goodbye to perhaps both the most and least important characters on the podcast, Danil Novak and Juan-Carlos Castille. It's a short episode, because we spent the last bit working on a new character for Ry.

By the way, we have a rig for doing tactical combat so combat will become much more like normal rpg combat.

S2E1 - Liberation and Broken Arms (Mar. 16-20 1937)

Sorry that it's been a while y'all. Things were hectic around the holidays for all of us and this was the first time we could actually get together to record. Hope the episode was worth the wait.

On this episode, the Soviets liberate the Italian-administrated prison camp where our Brigadiers have been held since last Christmas. After this, they head on up to the frontlines of the Southern Advance, are held in reserve, and get into a firefight with some Italian-supplied partisans. Both Danil and Carlos are hit in the arm by a 7.35x51mm Carcano bullet, in their right and left arms respectively, leaving these limbs rather useless.

Political Appointments (Sorry for the late episode!)

Sorry for the late episode, y'all. I was swamped this weekend.

On this episode, the acquisition of a tank leads to the appointment of the group to a platoon of tank killers. I'm keeping this description short, rather than putting a lot of time into it, so y'all get an episode soon.

Bonus: A Strange Episode
We couldn't do a normal episode this weekend, but Cato got everyone together to discuss the ramifications of the tank radio. Digressions abound, and Cato has to do a lot of work now.

Brigadier!
A Tank Named Warsaw

On this new (and, may I say great?) episode of Brigadier, we return a Nationalist's body and get shot at for it, repel our assailants, and obtain a PzKpfw. I Ausf. A, plus, Cato realizes that the malfunction number he's given is too low for modern weaponry (but we just turn that into a house rule), we are all almost brought to tears by Ryland's excellent roleplaying, and we focus much more on the dramatic.

Have any questions, comments, concerns, or perhaps the p̷͈̀̄ȓ̷̥͑e̸̙̰̕ć̸̜̎ĭ̷̮̦͊o̷̺̠̓̕ư̷̖͉͗s̷̩̤̾̅ ̸͉͋̚s̸̟̠̾̈t̶͉̦̏̀ā̷̬̊t̸̢͙͒̿ ̴̤̔b̶̦͊l̵̙̜͊o̵̧͙͑̓c̶̩̗̍k̸̦̈́̚s̵̟̒? Then drop us a line at ladthesquire@gmail.com. Oh, also check out the semi-active Instagram a fellow listener created to rep the show. It's a good way to get in touch. @cato_friday_productions. We're gonna try to do more on that ASAP!

Brigadier!
The First Geneva Suggestion

On this episode, the party finds themselves attacking a small field hospital controlled by the Nationalists (probably in violation of the First Geneva Convention, and possibly twice, given they brought along a doctor who was supposed to be performing humanitarian aid), trying to locate various medicines required for any competent medical practice. A solid core door saves Carlos from a bullet after he gets the bright idea to try lockpicking in an active fire zone, 220 damage is dealt on a headshot, and lots of UwUs are said in the Zoom chat. Digressions abound, and the episode may be more fun for them rather than the actual play.

Albacete: Part Two

Here on Episode 3.5 of the podcast, we continue our fight from the previous episode. Unfortunately, one of our characters was shot by enemy combatants. Surprisingly, the other characters managed to stabilize him, and we met our sixth character. His name is Vincent Van der Leid. He's a Dutch trauma surgeon, who will fill the vital healer-adjacent role on the team. (No-magic GURPS games don't really have true healers, more just guys who can keep the party from losing members as easily, since First Aid rolls just stabilize someone, and generally are used to stop bleeds, Physician really only deals with wounds to restore someone to 0 HP and allow them to begin re-gaining HP over time, and Surgery only really deals with internal injury, and works like Physician... but we can cover that on a future special perhaps?) We also get some good character development with Thomas Wolffe, who has managed to reform his ideas on pacifism... and may need new dramatic poles because of that.

We might be heading for a giant headache for me as a GM.

We could use your help guys! If you've got stat blocks for the Carro Veloce 33, we could use it! I've statted out the T-26 mod. 1932 (objectively the worst T-26 revision) and Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. A (and therefore can probably stat out the T-26 mod. 1933), but we could still use more vehicle stat blocks because we never know what sorts of vehicles will see combat. You'll be thanked both during the episode, and in a spreadsheet, whose link will be included in the description once we have contributors. Send them here ->: mailto:ladthesquire@gmail.com

Brigadier!
Albacete
In this episode, we see revolutionary fervor take the lives of those without enough of it, our heroes head to the front, forgetting entirely that they were supposed to receive a pickup truck, the pain of engaging targets at 300 yards over open sights, even with an LMG, and fill in the backstories of our characters. Brigadier! could use some help.  Cato, our GM, needs stat blocks. Lots and lots of stat blocks. There are many vehicles and weapons that would see service in this war not included in the source books that Cato has access to. (Carro Veloce 33 and 35 tankettes, Panzerkampfwagen I and T-26 tanks to name a few) So, if you've developed any of your own (for Fourth Edition, of course) and you're willing to let Cato have use of them for the purposes of the podcast, email them here: mailto:ladthesquire@gmail.com. You'll get your name added to a spreadsheet whose link will be in the show description before the rest of it, below a sentence that thanks the great folx contributing to the podcast.

Cato and Sam Chat for Three Hours - Special No. 1

This was supposed to be a simple test run of GURPS 4e combat, but many digressions lead to it becoming a chill chat with political discussion (not election related), history facts, and discussion about SMGs, Japanese tank design, High Explosive Anti-Tank rounds, and various other topics.

Please, enjoy.

Brigadier!
Enter, Brigadier!
Meet our heroes: Thomas Wolffe: A New York University student, ran a socialist book club. Joined on to the war after some book club members called him a coward for not doing so when they went off to fight in the International Brigades.  Matthew Birch: The son of a noble, and the product of the last great courtesan, Matthew Birch (Matthew Mowbray Berkeley, son of the Eighth Earl of Berkeley) went off to France, where he joined the French Foreign Legion as a sniper, alongside Otto Schuster. Both were wounded when an overzealous forward observer mistook their squad's position for an enemy position that had circled round, calling down howitzer fire. Joined onto the war because he wants to protect his girl back in France from Nazi aggression, and hopes he can help turn the tide here in Spain, before France becomes the battleground. Carlos Castle (Juan-Carlos Castille): The latest in a long line of Catalan dairy farmers, Juan-Carlos Castille spent his early life at the base of the Pyrenees in Spain. When a series of cattle rustlings were blamed on him, he was driven across the border into France, where he got a job as a factory worker. He became active in the union scene as an anarcho-syndicalist. Joined onto the war because he needs to protect his family in Catalonia, and worries about their future under fascism. Detests all forms of imitation milk. Otto Schuster: The son of a wheat farmer in rural southeastern Germany, whose family wasn't initially poor, but through a series of several poor harvests and financial mismanagement, lost most of their land. In 1914, his father went off to fight on the Russian Front of the Great War, and died in an assault on an artillery position. Otto moved in with another nearby farmer, and learned to shoot. When he was an adult, he went to France and served in the French Foreign Legion alongside Matthew Birch. Joined onto the war because he was a committed anti-fascist. Danil Novak: A Pole, Danil Novak was born in 1883, in Krakow, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was conscripted to fight in the Great War, but spent most of the time between 1914 and 1918 in a POW camp, after being captured during the Siege of Przemysl. Leaving Russia during the Revolution, he arrived in a newly independent Poland just as it began to fight for its life against the new Soviet Union. He's still haunted by the horrors of both wars. Joined onto the war because a resurgent Germany could endanger the independence of his nation. Our heroes meet in France, dispose of pistols in various trash cans, travel to Spain, where they are stripped of their rifles at the border, arrive in a small town the other side of the Pyrenees, where they annoy the local militia, and are forced to travel to another nearby town, whereupon they hitch a ride to Albacete, join on with the Spanish Republican Army, and ship off to boot camp, which, lacking anybody with actual experience, presses into service as instructors the three veterans in return for the promise of an old pickup truck.
