How does the migration journey (re)shape our perceptions of identity and belonging? In this episode, we explore this question with Akram, whose journey has taken him from Syria to Lebanon, and finally to the UK. Along the way, he’s experienced the multifaceted realities of being a migrant—student, worker, asylum seeker, refugee—and ultimately, a person beyond the label of 'migrant'.
Join us as we dive into a conversation about how identity is both self-assigned and ascribed, the politics of being a migrant, the tension between deservingness and vulnerability, and the complex emotions attached to nostalgia and home. As Akram’s homeland undergoes rapid and unexpected changes, we also attempt to understand how these shifts influence his evolving sense of belonging.
