Can I change my score?
The Running Man (2025): “Faux-Empathy, New Dollars, and a Towel That Defies Gravity”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt sprint head‑first into The Running Man, Edgar Wright’s dystopian game‑show thriller starring Glenn Powell, several baffled supporting actors, and more product placement than a Super Bowl commercial. Sophie battles a full-body vibe rejection within the first ten minutes, Matt questions the film’s understanding of money, physics, and human behaviour, and both hosts struggle to figure out who this movie is for (other than Puma). They break down erratic character choices, inconsistent world‑building, suspiciously shiny six-packs, and a towel scene that raises more questions than the entire plot. Two hours and thirteen minutes later, the only thing still running is their patience.

Frankenstein (2025): “Gothic Lighting, Handsome Corpses, and Zero Chemistry”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt dive headfirst into Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited Frankenstein. Did it reanimate the Gothic classic or just shuffle stylishly across the screen for two and a half hours? Sophie’s confused about the romance subplot, Matt’s baffled by how the monster looks runway-ready, and both agree the most horrifying part was how little they actually felt. It’s a monster mash of big performances, big prosthetics, and missed emotional beats — with extra credit (but not extra stars) for Jacob Elordi’s commitment to the bit.

ParaNorman (2012): “Stop-Motion Witches, Hockey Masks, and the Chubby King of Our Hearts”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt head back to the cinema – and back to 2012 – for the 13th anniversary re-release of ParaNorman. It’s spooky season, and this cult stop-motion gem still holds up (and looks even better in faux-3D). Matt’s enchanted by Laika’s craftsmanship, toilet-bound uncles, and Halloween deep cuts; Sophie’s swooning over the chubby charm of Neil and wondering aloud how long someone can stare at a puppet’s butt and still call it art. They discuss zombies, witch trials, parental disappointment, and why stop-motion might be the most unnecessary (yet most magical) way to tell a story.

Can I change my score?
The Ballad of a Small Player (2024): “Casino Carpets, Watery Wads of Cash, and Swinton in Disguise”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt gamble on The Ballad of a Small Player, a slow, spectral tale of vice, fate, and soggy banknotes somewhere off the coast of Macau. Sophie’s taken by the dreamlike mood and neon melancholy; Matt’s hung up on haunted money stashes and Colin Farrell looking like he hasn’t seen a shower since the Bush administration. Tilda Swinton’s somewhere in there, too – maybe. Probably. Definitely? They unpack the film’s elusive plot, its folklore undercurrent, and what happens when a man loses everything but still keeps betting.

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935): “Ham Sandwich Horror, Swan Impressions, and Wine Good”
In this spookily subterranean episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt emerge from Bristol’s Redcliffe Caves after watching The Bride of Frankenstein—a 1935 classic that’s equal parts gothic, goofy, and glorious. Between Boris Karloff’s earnest grunts and Elsa Lanchester’s five minutes of fame (spent mostly screaming), the hosts wonder: how did something this silly become so iconic? They unpack Boris’s dental drama, drunken cinematographers, and a very confused bat, before realising that “Smoke good. Wine good. Movie… very good.”

Roofman (2025): “Rear Nudity, Missed Comedy, and Millions of Jeffreys”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt break into Roofman, the new based-on-a-true-story film starring Channing Tatum (and quite a lot of him) and Kirsten Dunst. They dissect the film’s tone confusion, the strange blend of heist and heart, and why it never quite lands its big emotional swings. Was it meant to be funny? Are we supposed to root for this guy? Also: unrequested nudity, baffling montages, and a moral crisis unfolding between the bike aisle and the Barbie Dreamhouse display. Just another day at the movies.

One Battle After Another (2025): “Nachos, Revolutions, and Sean Penn’s Pervy Stare”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt take on Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, a sprawling, noisy, and oddly funny adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland. Both hosts land on the same score (a rare feat!) but for very different reasons: Sophie’s swept along by the atmosphere, Matt can’t get over Sean Penn’s twitchy eyelids, and both are floored by how the film nails its sound design but fumbles its finale. Was it a masterpiece trimmed too long, or a messy epic saved by stellar performances? Expect nacho talk, Alana Haim cameos, and at least one argument about whether DiCaprio’s paycheck was worth it.

The Wonder (2022): “Fasting Girls, Florence Pugh, and the Opium of Art”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt revisit The Wonder, Sebastián Lelio’s slow-burning tale of miracles, misery, and medicine in post-famine Ireland. Sophie’s swooning over the cinematography and Florence Pugh’s impeccable spoon work, while Matt’s digging deep into the film’s themes of belief, trauma, and small-town control. From fourth wall breaks to real-life mother-daughter casting trivia, the pair dive into why this Netflix sleeper might just be the Florence Pugh film people are sleeping on. It’s haunting, hypnotic, and yes – a bit woeful (in the best way).

The Roses (2025): “Zingers, Crabs, and a Marriage in Decline”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt dive into The Roses – a dark comedy about a marriage slowly (and sometimes violently) unravelling. Sophie’s sipping bubbly and hunting for more chaos, Matt’s quietly admiring the script’s British bite, and both wonder if Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch make the most believable toxic couple in years. Was this the dark romcom they were promised – or did the trailer oversell the carnage? Tune in for thoughts on marriages, murder attempts, and whether British passive aggression is the real villain.

Formula One (2025): “Old Drivers, Blurred Vision, and Mary Poppins in a Race Car”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt speed straight from the cinema into the podcast booth to talk all things Formula One, the glossy new Brad Pitt movie that’s basically Cars meets Top Gun: Maverick with a midlife crisis twist. Sophie’s swept away by the racing, the soundtrack and Brad’s perfect abs, while Matt’s deeply unconvinced by the physics, the plot, and the pit stop strategy. Did this high-octane blockbuster cross the finish line? Or did it just spin off into soft-focus nonsense? Tune in to find out.

Superman (2025): “Red Pants, Bland Baddies, and the Same Old Super Stuff”
In this unusual solo episode of Can I Change My Score?, Matt ventures into the rebooted DC universe without Sophie, who flat-out refused to see another superhero movie. So it’s just him, a cinema ticket, and a whole lot of thoughts on James Gunn’s new Superman. From red pants and infrastructure damage to Lex Luthor’s lack of rizz, Matt muses on masculinity, missed punchlines, and whether we really need another cinematic universe. Is hope enough to save the Man of Steel? Or just another excuse to get punched through a building? Tune in to find out.

Oppenheimer (2023): “An Almond a Day, Atomic Angst, and the Surprisingly Unboring Biopic”
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt finally watch Oppenheimer – two years late but still armed with Barbenheimer merch. They marvel at Cillian Murphy’s hollowed-out cheekbones (powered by a single almond), admire Christopher Nolan’s unexpectedly accessible storytelling, and grapple with the hour of post-bomb political fallout. It's a film about big ideas, bigger bombs, and very small lunches. Tune in for the full fallout.

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025): "Not-So-Scary Dinosaurs, Predictable Peril, and 3D Regret"
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt return from their podcast hiatus to tackle Jurassic World Rebirth – a dino-sized sequel Matt hoped would rekindle some '90s movie magic. Sophie’s spooked (but not impressed), Matt’s heartbroken (but unsurprised), and both hosts wonder how a film shot on real film can still feel so flat. Was it a thrilling resurrection or just another fossilised franchise cash-in? Tune in to find out.

Snow White (2025): "Crone Makeup, Princess Problems, and a Hedgehog That Waves"
In the latest episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt don their imaginary tiaras and head back to the cinema for Disney’s long-awaited live-action Snow White. From balcony seating to bold dwarfs and belting ballads, they dive into the sparkle and spectacle of the updated fairytale. Was Rachel Zegler’s performance truly “stellar”? Did the CGI dwarfs look a bit… Tintin? And was there enough Disney magic to stir the emotions – or did it all feel a little too polished and perfect? The duo talk songs, setpieces, and that hedgehog wave, and then decide if this royal remake deserves a higher score – or a poisoned apple.

Last Breath (2025): "Deep Sea, Shallow Impact"
In this episode, Sophie and Matt dive into Last Breath, the new survival drama based on the harrowing true story of a deep-sea diver trapped on the ocean floor. Sounds intense? Not quite. Despite a starry cast and life-or-death stakes, our hosts felt surprisingly little tension and even less emotion. Was it too faithful to real events to work as a film? Did Woody Harrelson really need to be there? And why didn’t it feel suspenseful when it absolutely should have? Tune in as they unpack all of it and see if their score go as low as the bottom of the North Sea.

Matt and Mara (2024): "An Awkward Reunion, a Seven-Year Itch, and One Very Handsome Husband"
In this episode of Can I Change My Score?, Sophie and Matt explore Matt and Mara, a quiet yet captivating Canadian indie film about old flames, life choices, and the subtle tension of wanting more. The film follows Mara, a poetry professor, as the unexpected return of her former friend Matt unsettles her carefully constructed life. They discuss the film’s understated performances, its painfully awkward yet deeply human moments, and the existential dread of poetry classes. Was this a thoughtful character study or just a meandering story about nothing? Listen to the podcast to find out!

The Brutalist (2024): "Concrete Dreams and Complicated Accents"
In this episode of Can I Change My Score, Sophie and Matt tackle The Brutalist, a three-and-a-half-hour epic packed with architectural ambition, immigrant struggles, and questionable Hungarian accents. They unpack Adrian Brody’s tormented portrayal of a post-war architect, the film’s sweeping cinematography shot in VistaVision, and the unexpectedly welcome built-in intermission. But does the movie’s historical weight hold up when they realise it’s not based on real events? Sophie is enthralled, Matt remains skeptical, and they both question if The Brutalist is a masterpiece – or just a really long film with beautifully grey lighting.

Smoking Causes Coughing (2023): "Superheroes, Surrealism, and Slabs of Titanium"
In this episode of Can I Change My Score, Sophie and Matt unravel the gloriously unhinged Smoking Causes Coughing, a French satire blending Power Rangers absurdity with horror anthology chaos. From the grotesquely charismatic Chief Didier (a womanising rat puppet oozing green slime) to bizarrely staged campfire horror stories, this film revels in its own surreal nonsense. They debate its deeper meaning—if one exists—while marvelling at its deadpan humour, gory superhero antics, and titanium prison-bed luxury. Matt is all in, Sophie remains unconvinced, but both agree: this is weird cinema at its most ridiculous and unexpectedly brilliant.

Emilia Pérez (2024): "Singing, Subversion, and Selena Gomez"
In this week's Can I Change My Score, Sophie and Matt tackle the Oscar-dominating sensation Emilia Perez. Described as a “Disney movie on crack,” this genre-bending musical dives into a kaleidoscope of Broadway-esque numbers, emotional upheaval, and dark undertones. They explore Karla Sofia Gascón's powerful portrayal of the titular character and Zoe Saldana’s swan-like grace, while questioning the film’s peculiar tone and setting. From gyrating bed scenes to heartfelt family struggles, the duo debate the film’s unconventional approach, its Netflix marketing woes, and its long-term impact. Scores shift as they ponder: is it too weird or just weird enough?

Under the Silver Lake (2018): "Conspiracies, Clues, and Complete Chaos"
In today's episode of Can I Change My Score, Sophie and Matt unpack Under the Silver Lake's conspiracy-soaked charm, from surreal owl women to hidden Hollywood secrets. They swoon over how Andrew Garfield’s Sam takes bum-life to new heights in this bizarre scavenger hunt through LA, chasing cryptic codes, mysterious women, and an unearned sense of purpose. Equal parts absurd and mesmerising, this neon-noir is as much about what it doesn’t explain as what it does. They debate Sam’s questionable choices, swoon over the film’s visuals, and agree that beating up kids over a scratched Mustang might just be the highlight. In short, it’s weird, wonderful, and weirdly wonderful.
