In May 2020, 58-year-old Colleen Rebelo was found dead under the shower in her Bicton, WA home. At first, her passing was thought to be natural—but within days, alarm bells rang when her son, Andre Rebelo, attempted to claim multiple newly-taken-out life insurance policies in her name. The cryptocurrency trader and partner of influencer Gracie Piscopo was drowning in debt, yet carefully curating a glamorous online image. Investigators soon uncovered forged documents, suspicious injuries, and a trail of deception pointing directly to him.
During his 2024 trial, prosecutors painted Andre as a son who killed his own mother for financial gain, staging her death to look natural while plotting to collect a million-dollar payout. Evidence included falsified coroner’s reports, forged wills, and even impersonated medical professionals, all part of an elaborate attempt to cover his tracks. After weeks of testimony and nearly two days of jury deliberation, Andre was found guilty of murder.
