In this episode, Coach Brendan Suhr is joined by Dr. Dayna Charbonneau, Director of Wellness for the Toronto Raptors for a timely conversation on the “people part” of coaching—mental performance, mental health, and the daily habits that help athletes perform with consistency.
Charbonneau shares her path from clinical psychology to becoming a full-time performance professional, and explains how she and the raptors take a Holistic approach to her work with the team and creating an environment where players feel supported and empowered.
She and Coach Suhr dig into practical coaching challenges that apply at every level—how to handle mistakes in real time, how to deliver consistent postgame messaging after wins and losses, and why process-over-outcome only works when coaches truly model it.
They also discuss loneliness and connection in today’s sports world, working with Gen Z athletes, setting boundaries around outside noise, and the value of simply noticing, checking in, and listening.

In this week’s episode Coach Brendan Suhr is joined by Ryan Pannone, head coach of Arkansas State. He shares how mentors like David Thorpe shaped his player development lens (build belief, sweat the details, tailor plans to the system), and why titles over money, kindness, and initiative opened doors throughout his career.
Pannone also digs into on-court philosophy: teaching modern, conceptual offense through a constraints-led approach and small-sided games; blending skill work with decision-making; and his daily progression to get to five-on-five every practice.
Ryan is a true inspiration and the conversation is a masterclass on having a growth mindset and building a career without skipping steps.
