This podcast introduces the Old Testament to kids.
We use this text from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Old Testament Stories for Children: About the Old Testament
Heavenly Father’s promises to His children long ago
illustration of pre-earth life
The first part of the Holy Bible is the Old Testament. These scriptures were written a long time ago, even before Jesus Christ was born. It has stories that help us have faith in Him. It teaches us that each person on earth is part of Heavenly Father’s family and that He loves His children.
Deuteronomy 7:7–9; Isaiah 45:10–12
Adam and Eve in the Garden
In the Old Testament, Jesus Christ is called Jehovah and the Lord. He follows Heavenly Father’s instructions. Since the time of Adam and Eve, Heavenly Father has sent the Lord Jesus Christ to speak to His prophets. Heavenly Father sends the Holy Ghost to help us know a prophet’s words are true.
Exodus 6:2–3; 2 Chronicles 20:20; Amos 3:7; 2 Peter 1:21; Moses 2:1
Adam’s posterity
The Lord promised the prophet Abraham and his wife Sarah that their family would grow and bless the whole world. Their grandson Jacob had a large family that became a nation. They were called the house of Israel, or Israelites. Prophets taught them to look forward to when Jesus Christ would come.
Genesis 15:5–6; 17:1–8; Deuteronomy 18:15; Isaiah 7:14

Many stories in the Old Testament show how the Lord kept His promises to the Israelites.
Genesis 9:13–17; Jeremiah 11:4–5; Hebrews 11:1–35
Moses showing staff to people
When the Israelites listened to the prophets and kept the commandments, the Lord helped them. When they disobeyed, He could not help them.
Deuteronomy 11:26–28; Job 36:11–12
children reading scriptures
You are part of Heavenly Father’s family. Heavenly Father is kind, and He loves you. He has a plan for you. Because of the Lord Jesus Christ, you can return to live with Heavenly Father again. Just like the Israelites were taught, you can choose to have faith in the Lord and keep His commandments.
Exodus 15:2; Deuteronomy 4:31; 5:10; Moses 1:39

December 15–21: “The Family Is Central to the Creator’s Plan”
The Family: A Proclamation to the World (Explained to Kids)
Even before we were born, we were part of a family—the family of our heavenly parents. That pattern continues on earth. Families here, at their best, are meant to echo the perfect pattern in heaven.
“The family is central to the Creator’s plan.”
“The Family: A Proclamation to the World” is clearly about families. But it is equally about God’s plan of salvation.
“Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Think of paragraphs 6 and 7 of the family proclamation as a pattern for “happiness in family life.”
Families are important in Heavenly Father’s plan.
I am a “beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents.”

December 1–7: “The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead”
Doctrine and Covenants 137–138
The revelations recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 137 and 138 are separated by more than 80 years and 1,500 miles (2,400 km). Section 137 was received by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1836 in the Kirtland Temple, and section 138 was received by Joseph F. Smith, sixth President of the Church, in 1918 in Salt Lake City. But doctrinally, these two visions belong side by side. They both answer questions that many people—including God’s prophets—have about life after death.
Ideas for Teaching Children
Doctrine and Covenants 137:5–10; 138:18–35
All Heavenly Father’s children will have the chance to hear the gospel.
Doctrine and Covenants 138:1–11
When I ponder the scriptures, the Holy Ghost can help me understand them.

From the come follow me manual:
Anciently, the Lord commanded Moses to build a tabernacle “according to the pattern shewed to [him] in the mount” (Hebrews 8:5; see also Exodus 25:8–9). The tabernacle was to be the center of Israel’s wilderness camp (see Numbers 2:1–2).
In 1833, the Lord commanded Joseph Smith to build temples “not after the manner of the world” but rather “after the manner which I shall show” (Doctrine and Covenants 95:13–14; see also 97:10). Like the tabernacle in the wilderness, the temple was meant to be a central feature in Kirtland (see Doctrine and Covenants 94:1).
Today, temples are found around the world. Even if they aren’t at the center of our cities, they point us to Christ, who should be the center of our lives. Though each temple differs in appearance, within them we learn the same divine pattern—a heavenly plan to bring us back into the presence of God. Sacred ordinances and covenants connect us to Christ and strengthen our families “not after the manner of the world” but after the pattern God shows us.
Grace For Grace - Growth Mindset For Kids - “Receive of His Fullness : Doctrine and Covenants 93”
When you climb up a ladder,” Joseph Smith taught, “you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith [2007], 268).
Sometimes that ladder of exaltation seems impossibly high, but we were born to climb to the top with the Savior’s constant help. Whatever limitations we may see in ourselves, Heavenly Father and His Son see something glorious in us, something godlike. Just as Jesus Christ “was in the beginning with the Father,” so “ye were also” (Doctrine and Covenants 93:21, 23). Just as He “continued from grace to grace, until he received a fulness,” so also “you shall receive grace for grace” (verses 13, 20). The restored gospel teaches about the true nature of God, and so it also teaches about your true nature and destiny. You are a literal child of God with the potential to “in due time receive of his fulness”.
This week we discuss the scriptures in doctrine and covenants 93, how Jesus Christ grew grace to grace, we can too. We liken this to the ladder that Joseph smith taught about. We also play some fun growth mindset games.

The Word of Wisdom Podcast for Children
Word of Wisdom Lesson for Kids
From the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Come Follow Me Manual : In the School of the Prophets, the Prophet Joseph Smith taught the elders of Israel about building God’s kingdom on earth. They discussed spiritual truths, prayed together, fasted, and prepared to preach the gospel. But there was something about the atmosphere that might seem odd to us today, and it didn’t seem right to Emma Smith either. During the meetings, the men smoked and chewed tobacco, which wasn’t unusual for the time, but it stained the wood floors black and left a strong odor in the air. Emma shared her concerns with Joseph, and Joseph asked the Lord. His response was a revelation that went far beyond smoke and tobacco stains. It gave the Saints, for generations to come, “a principle with promise”—promises of physical health, “wisdom,” and “great treasures of knowledge” (Doctrine and Covenants 89:3, 19).
