COMEDY 101
Comedy 101, now in its third season, features The History of Knock-Knock Jokes, a lighthearted yet insightful exploration of one of comedy’s simplest and most enduring formats. This episode traces the knock-knock joke from its early roots in call-and-response humor to its rise in popularity during the early 20th century, when wordplay and timing became central to mainstream comedy. Listeners discover how these jokes rely on anticipation, rhythm, and shared participation, making them accessible across generations and cultures. The episode also examines why knock-knock jokes, often dismissed as childish, persist as a foundational comedic device—teaching the basics of setup, payoff, and surprise. Blending humor with historical context, this installment celebrates how even the simplest joke structure continues to open the door to laughter.
Comedy 101, now in its third season, features an in-depth and engaging exploration of the history of knock-knock jokes, examining how this seemingly simple form of humor has endured across generations and cultures. The episode traces the origins of knock-knock jokes from early call-and-response traditions found in folklore and vaudeville to their widespread popularity in the early twentieth century, when timing, wordplay, and audience participation became central to comedic performance. It unpacks the mechanics behind why these jokes work so effectively, highlighting the importance of rhythm, repetition, anticipation, and the delayed punchline in creating humor. The discussion also challenges the assumption that knock-knock jokes are merely childish, instead positioning them as a foundational comedic structure that teaches essential principles such as setup, misdirection, and payoff. By connecting historical context with comedic theory, the episode demonstrates how knock-knock jokes have influenced stand-up comedy, children’s humor, and even modern meme culture. Thoughtful, entertaining, and informative, this installment shows how a joke that begins with a simple knock has continued to open doors to laughter for decades. Through clever observations and relatable punchlines, we explore the gap between who we plan to become and who we actually are when routine, temptation, and reality set in. Rather than mocking self-improvement, the comedy exposes its universal struggle, reminding listeners that failure is often funnier—and more human—than success. It is a witty, self-aware take on fresh starts, proving that sometimes laughter is the most realistic resolution of all.
Comedy 101, now in its Third Season, delivers a laugh-out-loud episode centered on New Year’s Resolutions, unpacking the yearly ritual where confidence is high, expectations are unrealistic, and follow-through is optional. This episode humorously explores why gym memberships peak in January, diets mysteriously “restart” every Monday, and bold life goals quietly fade by mid-February. Through sharp wit and relatable storytelling, it captures the universal gap between intention and behavior, revealing how human optimism often outruns discipline. Rather than shaming failure, the comedy embraces it, turning broken resolutions into shared amusement and self-awareness. The result is a clever reminder that if we cannot keep our resolutions, we can at least laugh honestly about them together. (Bonus Episode)Comedy 101, in its third season, features an engaging conversation with Leanne Linsky, comedian and entrepreneur, and Founder and CEO of Plauzzable. In this episode, Leanne shares insights on blending humor with business acumen, offering a unique perspective on creativity, resilience, and innovation in both comedy and entrepreneurship.
Leanne Linsky Comedian & Entrepreneur (Founder/CEO of Plauzzable) In 2001 I enrolled in my very first comedy class. Five years later, I packed two suitcases and moved to New York to pursue comedy full-time. I performed, produced, and hosted a weekly open mic for over 7 years and produced and hosted a weekly stand-up show in New York’s East Village. I wrote, performed, and produced my critically acclaimed one-woman show in NY, DE, and DC. Eventually, I moved to LA only to find myself spending more time on the freeway than on any stage. I continued to perform and produce weekly shows (and even co-hosted a podcast for a few years!), but getting from show to show was time-consuming. As a performer, I needed more opportunities for a live audience, real-time feedback, and opportunities to earn money doing comedy. In August of 2019 BC (Before COVID), I began experimenting with online open mics using existing technologies. Although many of those same technologies got us through a pandemic, they weren't designed for live entertainment. I went back to school and earned a master's degree in innovation and entrepreneurship to learn how to scale my idea. As soon as I graduated, I was accepted into an incubator and Plauzzable was hatched. More about Plauzzable: Plauzzable is disrupting the fragmented comedy industry for comedians and fans. Plauzzable is a LIVE online comedy club. We provide comedians scheduling tools, virtual stages, ticketing services, and the ability to grow a worldwide fan base. These features give comedians control of their earning opportunities. For fans of comedy we provide access to a global talent pool and more personalized live online show selections and interactions.
