This CHEA member's only webinar on CHEA recognition and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) took place on May 10, 2022. The 2021 CHEA Standards and Procedures for Recognition includes a requirement that recognized accrediting organizations manifest a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. This webinar is a presentation and discussion regarding how CHEA-recognized accrediting organizations might address DEI in their recognition process and support institutional commitment of DEI. The purpose of this webinar is to provide an opportunity for webinar participants to develop a deeper understanding of the rigor and purpose of the CHEA recognition process, who the accrediting organizations are that are recognized by CHEA and how accrediting organizations and, by extension, member institutions benefit from the CHEA-recognition process. Panelists include Robert Clark, President and CEO, Husson University; Leah Matthews, Executive Director of the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC); and Darrell Cain, President of Pierce College Puyallup. The webinar presents valuable perspective on the CHEA recognition process and its value to CHEA-recognized accrediting organizations and CHEA member institutions.

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) invites you to participate in a webinar on institutional liability, clinical programs and quality.    The webinar will focus on questions including:   Distinction between risks associated with universities, programs with clinical requirements and risks associated with accreditors: What might liability protection look like for each group? Do virtual clinicals carry the same level of quality preparation as on-site preparation … and what type of evidence would verify “quality” preparation? Do "virtual" clinicals meet the requirements for licensing exams? What challenges can be expected with virtual clinicals? How will these challenges be mitigated? Should accreditors expect virtual clinicals to become the norm beyond COVID-19? Academic freedom has emerged as an issue of profound importance during the past few years, especially as we have seen changes in governments around the world. It is receiving even more attention now, given the COVID-19 pandemic and the current social unrest around race and equity. For quality assurance, this attention to academic freedom has meant an expanded focus on this important subject, seeking to preserve and enhance this core value in colleges and universities through quality review around the world. The principle of academic freedom can be defined as the freedom for members of the academic community - that is scholars, teachers and students - to follow their scholarly activities within a framework determined by that community in respect of ethical rules and international standards, and without outside pressure. The Webinar will debate the contours of academic freedom both as it relates to institutions and quality assurance: What rights and obligations are attached to it from a European, Latin American and Scholars at Risk perspectives, and how these concepts are being challenged today?
