Is Christmas Pagan? Discerning Fact From Fiction With R.L. Solberg
Join us for this year’s Christmas investigative episode as we sit down with R.L. Solberg to examine one of the most persistent and controversial claims surrounding the holiday: Is Christmas truly rooted in paganism, or is that narrative built on selective history and modern mythmaking? In an age where viral videos and sensational headlines confidently declare Christmas to be nothing more than a repackaged pagan festival, we slow the conversation down and follow the evidence. Together, we trace the historical claims back to their original sources, evaluate what the early church actually believed and practiced, and expose where popular talking points often rely more on assumption than documented fact. But this conversation doesn’t stop at history alone. We also confront the modern tension many believers feel each December—caught between sincere faith and an overwhelming culture of excess, marketing, and consumerism. Is there a meaningful way to celebrate Christmas that resists commercialization while remaining grounded in Christian conviction? This episode isn’t about defending tradition for tradition’s sake—it’s about truth. If you’ve ever questioned the origins of Christmas, felt conflicted about how it’s celebrated today, or wanted a historically informed, biblically grounded perspective, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss. Tune in and discover what the evidence really says. P.S. Please consider partnering with us as we head into the new year. https://donorbox.org/cultish

Combatting Korean Cult Mind Control
In the final installment of our series on Korean cults, we expose the mind control tactics woven through groups like Shincheonji, the Olive Tree Movement, and the Unification Church. Building on the theological patterns we uncovered in episodes 1 and 2, we break down how these movements use reinterpreted Scripture, deceptive “Bible studies,” and authoritarian teaching structures designed to make you question the Bible—and trust their leaders as the only true source of revelation. We talk with our returning guests to uncover how these groups systematically dismantle a person’s confidence in God’s Word, isolate them from outside voices, and replace biblical authority with hidden doctrines, secret meanings, and messianic claims. This episode exposes how Korean messianic movements manipulate Scripture, control information, and infiltrate churches—and how Christians can recognize, resist, and refute their strategies with sound theology and the true Gospel.

False Christs of Korea: The Unification Church & Olive Tree Legacy
In this second episode of our series on Korean Cults, we trace the tangled roots of Korea’s modern messianic movements—shaped by Jeong Deuk-eun (“The Great Holy Mother”) and Kim Baek-moon—gave birth to a new religion that blended Confucianism, Taoism, and Christian language into a syncretic gospel of bloodline purification and “True Bloodline Lineage. We then follow how this ideology influenced later leaders like Jung Myung-seok (JMS) and Park Tae-seon of the Olive Tree Movement, revealing the disturbing legacy of Korean messiahship and political infiltration that continues today through groups like the Moonies, Shincheonji, and WMSCOG. We’re joined by Pastor Yang, Adjunct Professor of New Testament at the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, who holds a Doctor of Theology in New Testament and served as a Visiting Scholar at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (2023–2024). Also joining us is Chris, a former member of Shincheonji and returning Cultish guest, who shares his firsthand experience and ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the growing global influence of Korean cults. Together, we expose how the False Christs of Korea: The Unification Church and the Olive Tree Legacy which redefined the Gospel, replaced biblical revelation with self-proclaimed messiahs, and continue to shape Korea’s—and the world’s—spiritual landscape today. In this episode of Cultish, we explore why Korea has become a center for a new wave of cult movements—and why the global church should pay attention. Teen Mania: A Closer Look at Shiny Happy People: Season 2
Join us as we explore the rise and fall of Teen Mania Ministries, a prominent evangelical youth organization that was featured in the second season of the Shiny Happy People docuseries, titled "A Teenage Holy War" Teen Mania’s mission was to energize young people for Christian service through programs designed to foster spiritual commitment and leadership. Central to this effort were initiatives like The Honor Academy, a leadership training program, and large-scale youth conferences known as Acquire the Fire. While these programs were highly popular and attracted thousands of participants, the episode highlights concerns about their intensity and the pressure placed on attendees. Critics and former members described Teen Mania’s methods as emotionally and physically demanding, with some alleging that the organization employed manipulative tactics characteristic of cult-like behavior. These included authoritarian leadership, emotional coercion, and a culture that discouraged questioning authority. Such practices, according to the podcast, created a high-pressure environment that deeply impacted participants’ mental and spiritual well-being. The episode also covers the media scrutiny Teen Mania faced, including documentaries that accused the organization of mind control and cult-like operations. Ron Luce defended the organization, arguing that these portrayals were misleading and misrepresented the ministry’s intent and activities. Despite the controversy, Teen Mania had a significant influence on evangelical youth culture, shaping the experiences and beliefs of thousands of young people over decades. Ultimately, Teen Mania Ministries ceased operations, leaving behind a complex legacy. The podcast reflects on the lasting effects on former participants, both positive and negative, and situates Teen Mania within a broader discussion of the fine line between passionate religious programming and manipulative, cultish practices. It offers listeners a nuanced perspective on how charismatic organizations can deeply shape youth communities while raising ethical and spiritual questions. Burning Man: A Cultish Origin Story
We are joined again this week by Steve Matthews from Exposing the Cults to take another look into the world of Burning Man and Transformational Festivals. Our guest has attended Burning Man and has studied, written on, and has spoken about this growing phenomenon for several years now, and brings us years of his thinking and analysis on this subject in this episode. Matthews likes to point out that, "Young people today are not rushing out and joing groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses these days. Instead, they are pursuing other spiritual paths like Burning Man and other similar Transformational Festivals. Everything is changing now to new forms of spirituality in our culture." In this episode we delve into the hard to explain nature of these festivals and describes what goes on at them, as well as uncover the true history of Burning Man and then give a critical response to the emerging Pagan worldview behind Transformational Festival culture. You can order his full-length joural article from the Spiritual Counterfeits Project here at - https://scp-inc.org/product/the-burning-truth/ You can also follow episodes on the Exposing the Cults YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@ExposingtheCults
