Lauren and I are both in relationships that have spanned more than a year long and have been through breakups and reconnections. This week we hear from Jennifer Hanks, who runs a community over @Cocoscarvan on Instagram, and hosts the blog Cocoscaravan.com where she talks about being a twin-mom, her fertility journey, her late-husband’s cancer journey, and her walk through widowhood.  I had the chance to talk with Jennifer about her story and ask her some questions around dating, and how her head and heart feel about the topic.

In this episode, you will hear the story of how Mike Daniels and his new bride, Amanda Barnett, met on Instagram. They talk about how they developed a deep, long-distance relationship, and then met and committed to a life together with their combined six children.   They also opened up about how dating went for each of them after the death of their respective spouses, and what the road was like to finding each other. Throughout the interview their love was palpable, and they honestly speak about the challenges they are facing as a newly blended family.

Michelle regales us with the story of falling in love with her late husband, and of their beautiful and easy love. She talks about the loneliness she experienced after his death, and the difficulty of not having children through that time. We then talk about how she reconnected with her high school sweetheart after a 13 year break, and she is wonderfully honest about the pros and cons of reigniting an old flame. Michelle’s wisdom and insights are incredibly relatable and helpful for anyone who has lost a partner or spouse.

Stephanie tells us about her marriage to Dan , and talks about her experience being widowed with both teenagers and a baby in the home.   As we transition into dating, we discuss her support network, making pretend Bumble profiles for checking out the scene, and what happened once she actually got on the apps.  She talks about the experience; from bad dates, to boring boyfriends, to choosing physical satisfaction, to an eventual relationship with her current girlfriend.

Susan and I talk about the loss of her first love, and the father of her son, to a 10 month cancer battle.  She talks about her desire to put the pieces of her life back together and the men who walked alongside her as she moved forward.   We discuss how she carries her late husband with her, even today, and the wonderful new life she’s built.  She lets us in on some of her challenges and offers hope for holding a forever love while building a new life.

Sarah talks about her marriage to her husband Justin, and the toll that addiction took on their life and marriage.  We talk about her experiences with dating so far, her unique relationship with her in-laws, and her approach to living again after such a difficult experience.
