Eurovision Insight Presents… Eurovision Uncovered: A Show Shaped by Us
James Stephenson analyses how the Eurovision Song Contest has been reshaped by the values of its fans, and whether the values it represents are under threat. From the rise of the public vote and Eurovision's importance for the LGBTQ+ community, to its position as a cultural exchange and value to neurodiverse fans, we see how Eurovision has evolved to inhabit those values. And, by looking at the way those values can be dismissed, distanced and weaponised by others with the help of academics, artists and fans, James analyses whether the Contest is still living up to those values - and what happens if it doesn't.

Eurovision Chat Over Coffee, with Pan-ArcticVision’s Amund Sjølie Sveen
ESC Insight’s Phil Doré chats to Amund Sjølie Sveen, artistic director of Pan-Arcticvision.

It’s a scrappy, anarchic alternative to Eurovision where singers from Arctic communities compete for the prize while also developing cross-cultural solidarity.

This is the third edition of the contest, which in 2025 is being held in Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut.

We talked about how the contest emerged, the challenges faced by Arctic communities and the challenges of holding a song contest in one of the most isolated places on Earth. We also discussed the politics inherent in contests such as Eurovision and Pan-Arcticvision, and how this feels very different in a contest where all the participants come from marginalised communities far from the power centres.

Pan-Arcticvision will be live-streamed from PanArcticvision.Org on Saturday 29th November at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time, 21:00 Central European Time.

Eurovision Insight Presents… Eurovision Uncovered: It Takes a Village
This week on Eurovision Uncovered, we're going behind the cameras - to see how the Eurovision Song Contest really gets made.

In Episode 3, host James Stephenson discovers what it takes to produce the most technologically complex TV show on Earth. From the sheer volume of equipment to the tight timelines it's produced in, Eurovision pushes the boundaries of what's possible - and you'll hear from experts who have seen first-hand what engineering Eurovision is really like. James explores the logistics behind making the Contest happen, how each delegation approaches the challenge of staging their entry, and the incredibly complex systems in place to ensure that everything goes right when it matters: live on air to 160 million viewers.

Eurovision Insight Presents… Eurovision Uncovered: The Ticking Clock
Eurovision Uncovered continues as James Stephenson puts the spotlight on the competing artists - and asks whether the Song Contest is putting them under too much pressure.

In Episode 2, we ask just how stressful the Song Contest can be for our favourite Eurovision acts. Looking back at a conversation with Ziferblat the day after their dramatic semi-final qualification, James analyses the pressures weighing down on artists, considers how much impact Eurovision's brand-new Code of Conduct has made to their experience, and asks delegation members and community media journalists whether we can do more for the artists who put in months of intense work for just three minutes in the spotlight.

Eurovision Insight Presents… Eurovision Uncovered: It All Starts With A Song
Our new documentary series, Eurovision Uncovered, sets out to explain the Song Contest - and why it might not work how you think.

In the opening episode, host James Stephenson speaks to songwriter Jenna Doyle and music scholar Dr. Sam Murray, a team who has done academic research into what it’s really like for Eurovision songwriters. He also asks what makes Eurovision’s winning formula, speaks to a senior delegation member about what they look for when they pick their entry, and draws on previous interviews with Eurovision 2025 artists Remember Monday, Ziferblat, and Kyle Alessandro to see how the artists are both creating songs that fit Eurovision’s rules - and actively challenge them.

Eurovision Chat Over Coffee, with Guardian Liveblogger Martin Belam
As the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest approaches, the community media teams who have been following the Song Contest all year round are joined by the mainstream media as they bring the Contest to a much wider audience.

Yet these journalists have been working other beats and have other specialities throughout the year? How do they go about reporting on Eurovision with just a few days on the ground in Basel or at most two weeks in a tabloid newspaper's entertainment section?

Martin Belam is a reporter for The Guardian and is one of their experienced live bloggers. He has covered fast-breaking news stories, ongoing events, and major sporting moments. Once a year, he also covers the Eurovision Song Contest. Ewan Spence sat down with him a week before the Contest.

They talk about...

...how Martin started in journalism
...the ever-changing nature of reporting in the first decade of the 21st century.
...how liveblooging has become one of the new skills in a journalist's tool.
...how to prepare for liveblogging, including gathering information, stories, and quotes.
...the audience expectation when interacting with a liveblog.
...an obligatory reference to Ron from Sparks.

ESC Insight: Eurovision Song Contest Podcast
Eurovision Chat Over Coffee, with Creative Director Ace Bowerman
Every performance at the Eurovision Song Contest comes not only from the artists, but also from many collaborations behind the scenes that all work together to bring the best experience possible to those watching.  That includes the Creative Director; their ability to reflect and project moods, emotions, meaning, and more to the audience can lift performances to greater heights.

Ace Bowerman is one of those directors. Working with the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan delegations, she brings both Remember Monday and Mamagama's visions to the Basel stage.

Between rehearsals, Ace joined Ewan Spence to talk about creativity. Part of that includes the ideas behind the staging of 'What The Hell Just Happened' and 'Run With U', but they also talk about Ace's path to being a Creative Director, supporting themselves through University, and early roles.

How did their work change during the COVID pandemic lockdown, and what emotions did they feel when the world started to open up again? Was the Eurovision call expected, and what one thing did Remember Monday bring to the early meetings that helped the process?

Eurovision Chat Over Coffee, with Jessica Havulehto, Vörå’s KAJ Coordinator
As Eurovision 2025 draws closer, what does it mean for a small Nordic district to welcome Europe’s biggest cultural event in their own unique way? In this episode of Chat Over Coffee, ESC Insight’s Ben Robertson sits down with Jessica Havulehto, the so-called KAJ Coordinator and local organiser in Vörå, the home district of Sweden's representatives KAJ.

Jessica talks about the role of Finland’s Swedish-speaking organisations and the efforts in making Eurovision this year relevant to local communities, the logistics of programming satellite events in Vörå, and how the cultural legacy of comedy trio KAJ has engaged audiences in Ostrobothnia for over a decade. They also explore how the Contest is being embraced far beyond Basel, and the plans of Vörå to get everybody to watch the Eurovision final together.
