The Agency Brief
The Militia Act of 1792: Federal Mandate for Private Firearm Ownership

Five months after ratifying the Second Amendment (December 1791), the same Congress passed the Militia Acts in May 1792.

The Two Acts

May 2, 1792 – Calling Forth Act -  Authorized the President to call the militia into federal service.

May 8, 1792 – Uniform Militia Act - Mandated private armament and established uniform national standards (passed on the final day of the session).

Reason for Passage

A direct response to St. Clair’s Defeat (November 1791), the worst U.S. military loss of the era.
Congress responded by:

Expanding the professional army (the Legion of the United States)
Requiring citizens to arm themselves as a ready reserve — ensuring the nation didn’t rely on a large standing army many feared could threaten liberty

Who Was Enrolled

“Each and every free able-bodied white male citizen” aged 18–45.
Enrollment was automatic, with limited exemptions.
Some states broadened eligibility.

Required Equipment (Section 1 — purchased and maintained at personal expense)

Musket or firelock (military caliber, bayonet-capable) or rifle
Bayonet and belt
Knapsack, pouch, two spare flints
Cartridge box with ≥24 cartridges (or ≥20 balls for rifles)
Officers: additional privately purchased items (pistols, swords,

Dear WLS

Dragon Arcadia - In WLS Episode 617, Dungeon Daddies, at 38 min 41 sec on Rumble, Aaron begins talking about how much he hated the steel-frame Canik because it was too heavy. “It literally weighed over 10.17 pounds.” Shawn says that it weighs just under 3 pounds, so about the same as a 2011. Aaron says there’s no way, and he’s going to look up the weights to prove himself right. Shawn moves on and says they’ll get back to that after Aaron looks it up, but it never gets brought up again. I have an unrelated question for Aaron. How much does a steel-frame Canik weigh compared to a Staccato? Thanks guys! P.S. While looking through Rumble to find the episode, I kept getting ads for the ROTO 12 Compact Shotgun. Please look it up; I really want to see your reactions to this thing.

Shane H - I am a 07/02 FFL - Aero Precision used to be my go-to place for budget friendly parts with good quality. However, over the past year they have been impossible to deal with. They have made some changes and it's like I have to beg them to take my money. They also never answer emails or calls... Who would you recommend for AR-15 parts? Mainly looking for Uppers, Lowers, and Handguards... Thanks in advance

Ray G - What’s up bitches. What are your opinions on the Foxtrot Mike “Mike 45”? I have a Mat9 currently for a PCC and I love it! So I figured if I have a 9mm I better get a 45 so it has a friend. I know they are currently out of stock at the time of writing this but wanted to get a feel on what you guys thought. If you suggested the Mike45, what barrel length? Suppressor? Or I should go a different route totally. Thanks for answering my question. P.S. Fuck Aaron

Duran84 - I want to get into thermals, My budget is 2k. I have a Rix tourer night vision that sparked my interest in night hunting. My only complaint is scanning with the optic on the gun is tiresome. Should I get a monocular or a scope, so it could be dual purpose with a QD mount? What are some recommendations that the crew has thanks.

Standard Arms - Show is great. Thank you for serving our community. I am small kitchen table FFL. It’s been a great ride, with a healthy dose of fear! I am thinking about a laser engraver. I would want to it to be capable of properly marking firearms if I need to. ( the ATF spec of .003 inch depth I believe). If I’m investing in a laser engraver I’d use it to put my logo on stuff like magazines, key chains etc. This would probably be something that I would look at in a year and wonder why the F did I buy this thing. That being said I’d really like to spend as little as possible. Thanks.

Zac C - A- Aron, My gun shop shouldn’t charge for transfers Shawn, Aaron, your being retardedAlso Shawn, This company that came up with a great idea to put airline policies on a QR code and sell them for $30 should do it for free cause it’s a sErViCe tO ThE CoMmunITy That is all.

ARDREW479 Your Mom - Let’s talk about pistol recoil springs and how they impact reliability. I recently added a Radian Afterburner + Ramjet to my Glock 19X and also swapped in the Radian Compressor adjustable guide rod. The Compressor includes 13, 15, and 18lbs springs. I started with the 18lbs spring and it functions properly with both 115 and 124s. Would swapping to the lighter weight spring provide any value?

Reloading Podcast 559 – Nick picked the topic
Hello, and welcome to the Reloading Podcast here on the Firearms Radio Network.

Tonight the gang is bringing back the cartridge corner

Cartridge corner:

Snider

The .577 Snider (14.7×51mm) cartridge was a British black powder metallic centrefire cartridge, which fired a 0.577-inch (14.7 mm), 480-grain (31 g) lead projectile, primarily used in the Snider–Enfield rifle.

Early .577 Snider cartridges were made from a composite design using paper and brass foil with a stamped metallic base and primer, much like the first generation of Martini-Henry cartridges. Later cartridges (after the design had been proved with the Martini-Henry cartridges) were made from drawn brass, much like modern small arms ammunition. The .577 Snider cartridge was eventually replaced in service by the .577/450 Martini–Henry cartridge in the 1870s. The .577 Snider cartridge is considered by most commentators to be obsolete, with large scale commercial production having ceased in the 1930s.

Long Range Tactics 103 – Cheating? Say It Isn’t So…
It’s one thing to miss a shot, it’s another to cheat and act like you didn’t. In this episode, we dig into the stuff nobody wants to talk about at matches: backend score edits, sketchy paper sheets, and the PRS finale drama that lit up the whole shooting world.

Cole and Matt aren’t here to tiptoe around it. They’ve seen this kind of thing up close, and they’re ready to break it down. From shady match directors to competitors gaming scores, this conversation puts everything on the table. But it’s not just about calling people out. It’s about what this sport is supposed to stand for.

We talk about shooting clean, why trust is everything, and how your reputation should matter more than anything you grab off a prize table. There’s gear talk, match stories, and a look at the mindset that either builds this community or destroys it. If you shoot, RO, or run events, you need to hear this one.

MacBroz Show 67 – Six Seevveennn, Snacks, Staccatos & Selective Endorsements
Episode 67 is here — and yes, we absolutely leaned into the “6-7” meme that’s been making the rounds.
The guys kick things off with Darius’ fun fact of the week: kydex, the same material used in your holsters, was originally developed for NASA. From space to appendix carry… wild.
We roll right into our NDZ Performance sponsor read, then Josh breaks down his latest pickup from Art-illery — the Fusion XF Pro — and why it’s already turning into one of the most surprising values on the market.
That leads to a real conversation about credibility, trust, and endorsements in the firearms content space. The MacBroz don’t put their name on just anything, and we explain why that matters.
Darius also gives an update on his growing love affair with the Staccato C, plus what custom work he has lined up next with Art-illery.
And then because it wouldn’t be a MacBroz episode without some chaos we debate the ultimate question:If you had to dual-wield snacks to fight off hunger, what’s your loadout?
Laughs, insights, gear talk, and good vibes everything Episode 67 should be.

ZERT Coffee & Chaos 140 – After the Flash: Surviving the Unthinkable
When the unthinkable happens — when a nuclear detonation shatters the world as we know it — what comes next? After the Flash takes you deep into the aftermath, exploring the chaos, the survivors, and the systems struggling to rebuild amidst fallout and fear.
Each episode dives into the stark realities of a post-nuclear world: radiation zones, fractured governments, underground refuges, and the fragile threads holding civilization together. But there’s another threat unfolding at the same time — a rapidly mutating global pandemic fueled by artificial intelligence. As medical systems collapse, rogue AI strains evolve beyond control, rewriting the rules of biology and survival itself.
From emergency broadcast archives and survivor interviews to black site transmissions and classified AI experiments, After the Flash blends documentary realism with speculative storytelling to paint a chilling picture of humanity’s fight to endure in an age where our greatest creation has become our deadliest contagion.

Double Tap 435 – Donor Parents
Double Tap Episode 435
This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Night Fision, Blue Alpha, Die Free Co., Second Call Defense, Mitchell Defense, and Swampfox Optics

Welcome to Double Tap, episode 435! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show!
Agency 171

Jeremy - Future operatives, tonight, We speak to you from the hidden vaults of a legacy long whispered but never fully revealed. For years, our loyal listeners have stood with us in what we called "the cult," a bond forged in fire and fun. But the time has come to shed that skin and ascend to something deeper, something etched in the crimson ink of history.

Nick - Welcome to Agency 171, a clandestine brotherhood born in the aftermath of our nation's founding, dedicated to the unyielding defense of liberty against those who seek to divide and disarm. No more mere cultists; you are now Operatives, rising through the ranks from Recruit to Director in the Covert Conclave. Your pledge isn't just support—it's an oath, unlocking exclusive intel, relics like the Loyalty Coin, and the power to strike back at tyranny.

Savage - The old cult is nullified. Agency 171 is the future, step into the shadows. The Mandate watches, but we endure. Isn't it interesting how much the number 171 comes up in daily life? You'll see it everywhere—a sign, a call, your destiny. Lock and load, Operatives. The Agency awaits.

Shawn - This is our new listener support program. Everyone who is a cult member will be migrated automatically tomorrow morning. You don’t need to do anything except check your email (check spam). You’ll get an email with details and you can take a look at the rewards and upgrade if you’d like. Way more rewards, way more fun and has so much more coming. There is even a game with all the cast and YOU as the main character. There will be missions (describe missions) with prizes as well. I have big plans for this and can’t wait for what’s to come.

After this week, after giving everyone a chance to upgrade, I’m giving away a gun to a random operative. I have many to get rid of and the Agency is where it’ll be happening.

Agency 171 is a fictional secret society created as a fun rebrand for the "We Like Shooting" podcast's listener support model. In the lore, it's a clandestine organization founded in the early 1800s (post-1789) to defend absolute 2A rights against the Mandate for Divisive Action (MDA), a made-up deep-state cabal that promotes gun control. Listeners "join" as Operatives through monthly pledges (from Recruit at $5 to Director at $60+), unlocking exclusive perks like bonus content, merch (e.g., stickers, coins), and community access in the Vault. It's all for entertainment—support the show, get in on the mystery, and fight "tyranny" with humor and gear.

Dear WLS

Spenser F - Looking to get a century arms mp5sd. Wondering what can you guys would recommend that would fit under the 1.5" handguard and still be super quiet? I was going to go with the bowers vers 9 but it's diameter is 1.7. Thanks

Lenny W - You guys ever think about doing a section about what's new in 3D prints in the gun world every week?

Alex W - Hey y'all. I've heard a lot of stories about fish and game cops trying to jail people over defensive wildlife shootings. I was wondering if that was something 2nd call defense would help with or if they only deal with cases involving human assailants?

NightWasher513 Tx - Let me first say that finding this page without manually typing in the words “dashboard “. And if you look at the transcript to get the right link on Double Tap 425 it says the link is wedelikeshooting.comdashboard.

Let’s Go Hunt 149 – Satan’s Pickle: Deer Shoulder Butt

Mike Goncalves, who lost a good looks contest to a badger.

Sam Alexander - karaoking a brunette sonnette with your sister

Dave Packard, who may or may not be deceased, but is still definitely on location.  Somewhere else.

And,

The ever uninspired,

Vince H

Around the Campfire Tonight: Head and Broads, in an order that might surprise you

I want to talk about broadheads, again.
This time crossbow broadheads, but also broadheads in general. It’s a long word to type, “broadheads”. Lot’s of letters in there. Let’s call them bh for now.
Crossbow BHs are ostensibly rated for higher speeds and force to deal with the speeeeeeeed the speeeeeeeeed. Lot’s of nonsense on the internet about needing solid steel ferrules and not aluminum ones but that shit is in the bolt/arrow, not the broadhead.
I suppose there’s only one way to test this, which is to shoot some into a target and see what happens.
Short story is I got an open box deal on bolts, and I want to marry those bolts to cheaper broadheads and continue the beaver harpooning. Could just toughen up and zero the .308 but the nice part about the crossbow is I can zero it right there next to the truck and get going without the additional time to get to the rifle range. Also because it’s cool.
Thoughts on going commie and trying out $2 CHYNA broadheads for live and laughing and funning.

We Like Shooting 636 – Guntards
We Like Shooting Episode 636
This episode of We Like Shooting is brought to you by: Midwest Industries, Gideon Optics, Primary Arms, Medical Gear Outfitters, Rost Martin, Bowers Group, and Matador Arms

Welcome to the We Like Shooting Show, episode 636! Our cast tonight is Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show!

Agency 171

Savage - tonight, we're ditching the old "cult" label and leveling up to something way cooler. We've been calling our supporters the cult for years, but it's time to evolve.

Jeremy - Welcome to Agency 171, a secret crew born right after the nation's founding, all about defending your 2A rights with no BS compromises. We're talking absolute freedom against those who want to divide us and grab our guns.

Nick - The cult is history. Agency 171 is the future. Isn't it weird how 171 pops up everywhere? Keep an eye out—it's your sign to jump in.

Shawn - This is our new listener support program. Or is it? Everyone who is a cult member will be migrated automatically tomorrow morning. You don’t need to do anything except check your email (check spam). You’ll get an email with details and you can take a look at the rewards and upgrade if you’d like. Coating: Infernoware for heat dissipation during/after use—first in suppressors.
Compatibility: HUB threaded for versatile mounts like direct thread or quick-detach (ASR Bravo, Dead Air Keymo).
