Story Transcript:

En: In the heart of Kaapstad's suburbs, in a cozy backyard, spring had laid down its bright green cushions of new leaves.

En: Kobus, with his broad smile, set up his grill and stood thoughtfully with a pot of spices in hand.

En: He had decided to host the largest and best neighborhood barbecue anyone had ever seen.

En: “I am going to grill the world's best lamb chops!” said Kobus enthusiastically, as he unscrewed the lid of the spices.

En: Annelie, his wife, glanced out the window from the kitchen and joked, “Just not too much salt this time, Kobus!”

En: Kobus just grinned widely and proceeded.

Af: Die gaste het begin arriveer.
En: The guests started to arrive.

Af: Eerste in die ry was Bjorn, die grappige buurman met 'n sin vir humor so skerp soos 'n braaitang.
En: First in line was Bjorn, the funny neighbor with a sense of humor as sharp as a grill tong.

En: “Kobus, I believe you are going to overwhelm us all with your grilling skills today!” said Bjorn with a wink.

En: With the scent of flowers and freshly cut grass in the air, the fire began to crackle under Kobus's capable, but inexperienced hands.

En: The lamb chops started to sizzle on the grill, and Kobus sprinkled each piece with a heavy hand of spices, convinced that more is always better.

Af: Maar gou het 'n groot probleem ontstaan.
En: But soon a big problem arose.

En: The inexperienced combination of spices created a cloud of intensity over the whole backyard.

En: “Kobus!” exclaimed Annelie as she took a bite.

En: “It's terribly strong, no one can eat this!”

En: A moment of silence followed, only broken by Bjorn's laughter.

En: Kobus turned red with embarrassment.

Af: Hy moes iets doen.
En: He had to do something.

En: Without anyone noticing, he slipped into the kitchen and quickly started grilling a few packs of sausages in a pan.
