Story Transcript:

En: It's cold outside, and the winter wind from the Черно море howls over the Naval Base in Варна.

En: Марија, a young but experienced officer, looks at the small yet cozy decorations they've managed to put up at the base.

En: The Christmas lights twinkle faintly but add a bit of warmth to this frosty winter evening.

En: Марија has always been determined and serious about her work, but this time she's troubled by different thoughts.

En: She is far from her family for New Year's, and although she has always been strong, she feels the weight of loneliness.

En: At this moment, Васил and Никола, her colleagues and good friends, appear.

En: "Марија, what are we going to do tomorrow for New Year's?"

En: asks Васил, seeing her face, gloomy as the winter sky.

En: "You know we won't be able to go home."

En: "I was thinking of doing something here," says Марија quietly.

En: "I've somehow decided to feel the joy and warmth of the holiday again."

En: The three head to the nearby stores in the city, where they buy whatever they can—some garlands, even a few fresh fruits, and confetti.

En: The two chat while snowflakes burst, as Марија dreams of how her small plan will bring joy to the base.

En: Later that night, with limited resources, Марија begins to decorate the small hall of the base.

En: The decorations are modest but aim to express love and hope.

En: Time flies, the windows fog up, and outside the wind howls like an old sea wolf.

En: On New Year's Eve, Марија looks hopefully at the clock.

En: She isn't sure if anyone will come.

En: But just as midnight approaches, the door opens.

En: Васил and Никола enter with smiles on their faces, followed by a...
