GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE PODCAST Ep. 274 - FDNY JACK CARNEY
Be sure and join us Live on our Youtube Channel this Thursday December 18th with our special guest, FDNY Veteran, Jack Carney. Jack joined the FDNY in March of 1965 and was assigned to Engine 7 out of Probie school. From there he went to Engine 219 in late 1965, then in 1966 he went to Engine 283. The following year he went to Squad 4 where he was "allegedly" lifted. In 1970 he did some time in Truck 111 and in 1971, was detailed, then transferred to Rescue 2. In 1977 he was assigned to Rescue 4. Assigned BFI in 1978, and retired in 1988. After his retirement he continued to investigate fires and is currently a Peer Counselor with FDNY's counseling unit. We are sure he hasn't seen any fires and probably doesn't have any real good stories to share. We will get the whole skinny on Jack's career. You don’t want to miss this one. Be sure and join us with our special guest, FDNY veteran and actor Jack McGee. He was born in the South Bronx, New York, the youngest of eight children. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, where he was class president and also played on the Football team, and appeared as a member of the background harmony in The Young Rascals. In 1977, he became a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department. As a firefighter, he served with FDNY Engine Company 38 and Ladder Company 51 in the Bronx. During his acting career, he was in the TV Series RESCUE ME, he portrayed FDNY 15th Battalion Chief Jerry Reilly. He also played Otis Schmidt, the driver and engineer in the movie BACKDRAFT. Tune in as we honor and pay tribute to the ONLY patrolman that perished on 911. Keith was with Fire Patrol 2 in Greenwich Village and responded to the trade center on that horrific day. Keith performed some great heroic acts on 911 including several trips into the North Tower where he saved an estimated 200 civilians. Sadly, as he was rescuing 9 civilians, the second tower collapsed, killing Keith and the 9 civilians he was rescuing. This is going to be another great tribute show as we discuss Keith's career and the controversy surrounding his death. We will also get to discuss Arnolds time in the Fire Patrol. Be sure and join us with our special guest 34 year veteran, Captain Jim Carpenter. Jim was appointed to the FDNY in October of 1969 to ladder 103-2 which was disbanded in December of 1974. From there he served in Ladders, 18, and 172. Was then promoted to Lt. in 1984 and went to 113 truck. Promoted to Captain in 1990, then worked in 153 truck. Cap also had the honor of being detailed to Chief Ganci, and to also be detailed as acting chief of MSU in 2000. Captain Carpenter retired in 2003.
