It introduced the character of Count Dracula, and established many conventions of subsequent vampire fantasy. The novel tells the story of Dracula's attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse, and of the battle between Dracula and a small group of men and a woman led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing. Dracula has been assigned to many literary genres including vampire literature, horror fiction, the gothic novel, and invasion literature. The novel has spawned numerous theatrical, film, and television interpretations. The story is told in an epistolary format, as a series of letters, diary entries, newspaper articles, and ships' log entries, whose narrators are the novel's protagonists, and occasionally supplemented with newspaper clippings relating events not directly witnessed. The events portrayed in the novel take place chronologically and largely in England and Transylvania during the 1890s and all transpire within the same year between 3 May and 6 November. The Mask of the Red Death (Unabridged) by Edgar Allan Poe

Title: The Mask of the Red Death (Unabridged) Author: Edgar Allan Poe Narrator: Michael Troy Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 17 minutes Release date: November 27, 2020 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 1 Ratings of Narrator: 5 of Total 1 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: 'The Masque of the Red Death', originally published as 'The Mask of the Red Death: A Fantasy' (1842), is a short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. The story follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other wealthy nobles, hosts a masquerade ball within seven rooms of the abbey, each decorated with a different color. In the midst of their revelry, a mysterious figure disguised as a Red Death victim enters and makes his way through each of the rooms. Prospero dies after confronting this stranger, whose 'costume' proves to contain nothing tangible inside it; the guests also die in turn. Poe's story follows many traditions of Gothic fiction and is often analyzed as an allegory about the inevitability of death, though some critics advise against an allegorical reading. Many different interpretations have been presented, as well as attempts to identify the true nature of the titular disease. The story was first published in May 1842 in Graham's Magazine and has since been adapted in many different forms, including a 1964 film starring Vincent Price. Additionally, it has been alluded to by other works in many types of media.

Lovecraft Narrator: Nick Field Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 10 minutes Release date: November 27, 2020 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: 'The Tree' is a macabre short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written in 1920, and published in October 1921 in The Tryout. Set in ancient Greece, the story concerns two sculptors who accept a commission with ironic consequences. Lovecraft wrote 'The Tree' early in his career. He was dismissive of the story in a 1936 letter. Such stories, he said, 'if typed on good stock make excellent shelf-paper, but little else.' The assessment of Lovecraft authority S. T. Joshi was that although the story 'may be a trifle obvious... it is an effective display of Lovecraft's skill in handling a historical setting.' On a slope of Mount Maenalus in Arcadia is an olive grove that grows around a marble tomb and the ruin of an old villa. There, one gigantic tree resembles a frighteningly distorted man, and the roots of the tree have shifted the blocks of the tomb.

Title: [German] - Krambambuli (Ungekürzt) Author: Marie Von Ebner-Eschenbach Narrator: Simon Pichler Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 27 minutes Release date: October 26, 2020 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: Vorliebe empfindet der Mensch für allerlei Dinge und Wesen. Jahrhunderts.

The Final Problem - A Sherlock Holmes Adventure (Unabridged) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Title: The Final Problem - A Sherlock Holmes Adventure (Unabridged) Author: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Narrator: Carol Phillips Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 56 minutes Release date: October 26, 2020 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: 'The Final Problem' is a short story by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle featuring his detective character Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in Strand Magazine under the title 'The Adventure of the Final Problem' in December 1893. It appears in book form as part of the collection The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle later ranked 'The Final Problem' fourth on his personal list of the twelve best Holmes stories. This story, set in 1891, introduced Holmes's greatest opponent, the criminal mastermind Professor James Moriarty. - Holmes arrives at Dr. John Watson's residence one evening in a somewhat agitated state and with grazed and bleeding knuckles. Much to Watson's surprise, he had apparently escaped three separate murder attempts that day after a visit from Professor Moriarty, who warned Holmes to withdraw from his pursuit of justice against him to avoid any regrettable outcome. First, just as he was turning a street corner, a cab suddenly rushed towards him and Holmes just managed to leap out of the way in time. Second, while Holmes was walking along the street, a brick fell from the roof of a house, just missing the detective. He then called the police to search the whole area but could not prove that it was anything other than an accident. Finally, on his way to Watson's house, he was attacked by a thug armed with a cosh. Holmes managed to overcome his assailant and handed him to the police but admitted that there was virtually no hope of proving that the man was in the employ of the criminal mastermind.

It was first published in Strand Magazine in 1893 with original illustrations by Sidney Paget. Sherlock Holmes, suffering from boredom due to a want of cases, returns home from a walk with Dr. Watson early in spring to find he has missed a visitor but that the caller has left his pipe behind. Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky

Title: Notes from Underground Author: Fyodor Dostoevsky Narrator: Stefan Rudnicki Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 4 hours 35 minutes Release date: October 6, 2020 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 1 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: “I am a sick man … I am a spiteful man,” a nameless voice cries out. And so, from underground, emerge the passionate confessions of a suffering man; the painful self-examination of a tormented soul; the bristling scorn of a lonely individual who has become one of the greatest antiheroes in all literature. In 1864, just prior to the years in which he wrote his greatest novels—Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed, and The Brothers Karamazov—Fyodor Dostoevsky penned the darkly fascinating Notes from Underground. Its nameless hero is a profoundly alienated individual in whose brooding self-analysis there is a search for the true and the good in a world of relative values and few absolutes. Moreover, the novel introduces themes—moral, religious, political, and social—that dominated Dostoevsky’s later works. Those who are familiar with his works will immediately recognize the novel’s richly complex philosophical, political, and psychological themes; those who are not will find the best introduction to Dostoevsky’s grander masterpieces.
